First, distinguish between big and small years: bamboo has a rule, every other year there are many bamboo shoots, and there is an obvious rest year in the middle, commonly known as big and small years. In the new year, except for the old bamboo, the bamboo shadow is dense and the leaves are dark green, which looks like a feather duster from a distance. And even the bamboo in its prime is as sparse as a depilated chicken. Some bamboo forests are barren or over-mined with bamboo shoots, resulting in serious mixed years, which are called "Peach Blossom Fan" and "Huashan Mountain".

Second, identify the pregnant bamboo: the farmer said: "The branches are low and thick, and there are many double-opened bamboo shoots", which means that the bottom branches are double-branched, the leaves are long and thin, sharp and slightly golden yellow, and the whole plant is pregnant bamboo. Because bamboo shoots consume certain nutrients, the nutrients in the bottom leaves are transferred away, resulting in yellowing of the leaves. The main whip of pregnant bamboo is golden yellow, full of energy, with swollen lateral buds, many bamboo shoots and large bamboo shoots.

Third, find the main whip: looking for pregnant bamboo does not mean looking for bamboo shoots, but also looking for the main whip of pregnant bamboo. How to find the main whip here are three common methods:

1, dig out all the soil around the pregnant bamboo and find the thickest and most powerful root. This is the most stupid, tiring and effective method.

2. According to the fact that the direction of the lowest branch of pregnant bamboo is roughly the same as that of the main whip, in the flat land with soft soil and small land fluctuation, the direction of the main whip is generally the same as that of the lowest branch, and the whip is straight.

3. Judging from the bending direction of the pregnant bamboo pier, bamboo usually has a bend near the bamboo pier when it shoots, because the bamboo shoots first grow outward, then grow upward for about 45 degrees, and finally grow straight up to become bamboo. The vertical direction of the plane formed by this bending is roughly the same as that of the main whip, but there are some errors. Bamboo shoots and main whip are 90 degrees to 180 degrees.
