Classical Chinese on the eleventh day of the first lunar month

1. Ding Chou's The Eleventh of the First Month is the first article of Xu Xiake's Early Spring Tour. The original text and translation are attached for reference.

Original: Ding Chou (A.D. 1637) was in beginning of spring on the eleventh day of the first month, and the sky was brilliant. I was in a hurry to eat when I heard that Li accompanied me downstream from the ship to Hengzhou. /kloc-On 0/7, I will meet at the foot of Caoqiao Tower in Zhi Heng, and ask my servant to explore Chaling and the mountains of Youxian by land.

Go out, it's raining. Cross the south cliff of the stream and flow west.

The stream has been folded to the northwest, with more than one mountain, * * * three miles, and it meets with the stream, which is Gaolong. So he still crossed the northwest of the stream, and then crossed two hills, * * * five miles, to Panlong Temple.

There is a small stream from Longtou Mountain in the north, which is Wujiang River and Chaling Avenue in the west. Going south along the mountain stream is for the sake of Xiaojiangkou, which is a misty mountain road. The second road is in front of Panlong Temple.

"Xiaojiangkou, namely Panlong and Wujiang Rivers, starts from the dragon head in the north and flows into Huang Wei Daxi in the south. Yungai Mountain is on the Shajiang River, 50 miles east of Chaling. The mountain is deep and steep.

At the beginning of the temple, the solitary boat owner cut the mountain and built a brake, becoming a jungle. Today, it is a lonely ship. Two years ago, the tiger caught a monk from the temple, so the monk dispersed, the tiger walked during the day, Shan Ye was covered with weeds, the Buddha was empty, and no one entered.

Every time you ask someone for advice, you should avoid the "commandments". 【 and the rain and fog is bigger, no guidance.

I don't get in the way, start from Panlong Road, go south along Xiaoxierli, and then meet Daxi. Crossing the stream to the south into the mountains, the rain is good.

From the second mile southwest of Shanjia Road, there is a big stream flowing from the north to the foot of the mountain. 【 Panqu Gorge, stone cliffs on both sides, surrounded by water. The second lane is Jiang Sha, where Yunduanxi enters Daxi.

I met a man with an umbrella on the road. When I saw Yu Wen, I said, "This road must be closed to many people. I should go home and give you a hundred lessons. " I felt its meaning because I went to my home.

He wants to find three people, each with a hairpin and a fire, and enter the mountain in the rain. At the beginning, I entered [one mile] eastward with the west entrance and looked at [one stream from] Xixia [looking across the gap], and the cliff beams were like doors.

The guide said, "This Tiger Cave is a mountain. The husband who has not burned is afraid to enter. "

The rain was getting heavier, so I went back to the stream and turned for two miles. [The stone at the bottom of the stream is like a platform, and the water is cut from the middle. It is very beautiful. So I went up the mountain, turned to the mountain pass, and got a valley in Pingchou called Monk Garden.

【 Surrounded by mountains and peaks. Pingyu,] about a mile, after a mountainous mountain, flows into the canyon along the front stream, and another mile, where is Yun Qi Temple?

The mountain was dark and foggy, and there was no one there. The golden fairy clouds are cold in the temple, and the Dan furnace in the kitchen is empty. After wandering for a long time, the rain became more and more hurried, so I went out with the guide.

Out of the Xikou, the guide saw a boat, so he let out a cry and attached it. Paddling down the river, the boat was very sick and urgent.

My clothes and shoes are wet and my muscles are cold, but I am busy asking about the cliffs on both sides. Boarding in the afternoon, about 40 miles, boat people traveling 30 miles at night, moored at Dongjiang River mouth.

On the eleventh day of the first month of Ding Chou's year, it was sunny in early spring. I quickly ate a meal, entrusted my luggage to go down to Hengzhou by boat, and made an appointment to meet at the foot of Caoqiao Tower in Hengzhou on the 17th of this month, and asked Gu servant to follow me lightly and explore in the mountains of Chaling State and Meixian County by land.

When I walked out of the house, it was raining all over the sky. Cross the stream to the south bank and go downstream to the west.

Then the stream turned to the northwest. We crossed a hill, walked three miles and met the stream again. This place is Gao Long. After coming out of Gaolong, I still crossed the stream to the north, then crossed two hills and walked five miles to Panlong Temple.

There is a stream flowing from Longtou Mountain in the north and across the stream in the west. This is the Wujiang River, which is the road to Chaling House. Going south along the mountain is Xiaojiangkou, which is the way to Yunjun Mountain. The two roads diverged in front of Panlong Temple.

Xiaojiangkou is the place where two streams, Panlong and Wujiang, flow from the northern dragon head and then flow southward into the big stream originating from Hwang Jin Kin Xianmiao. Wei Yun is located on the top of Shahe River five miles east of Chaling District. It is deep and steep.

In the early years of Zongshen, the master of the ancient boat opened a mountain to build a temple, so it became a place where monks gathered to read Buddha and practice. Now the boat is gone. Two years ago, the tiger took a monk from the temple, so the monks ran around, and wolves, tigers and leopards appeared during the day. The fields in the mountains are deserted, and the Buddhist temples have become empty, and no one goes there anymore.

Every time I go to a temple on earth, I am warned not to go. And the rain is foggy and thick, and no one wants to lead us.

None of this has hindered me. I walked south along the stream from the path of Panlong Temple, walked two miles and met Daxi again. Crossing the stream and heading south into the mountains, it rained even harder.

Walking two miles southwest from the path between the two mountains, there is a big stream flowing from the north, reaching the foot of the mountain and winding around the canyon. The stone cliffs on both sides of the stream are eroded by the water flow to form a series of horizontally extending and obliquely protruding rocks. Two miles along the stream is Shajiang River, where the stream of Yunjun Mountain flows into Daxi.

On the way, I met a man who was going to travel far away with an umbrella. When he saw my road, he said, "This road can't be entered unless several people are together. I should go home and lead you. " I thanked him for his kindness, so I followed him to his house.

The man found me three more people, each with some knives, sticks and torches, and went into the mountains in the rain. At first, I went in from Xikou to the east and walked for a mile. I saw a stream flowing out of the southwest canyon, with layers of stone cliffs crossing and facing like a door.

The guide said, "This place is a den of tigers, and people who burn charcoal and chop wood are afraid to go in." At this time, it was raining harder and harder, and I went back to the stream and zigzagged for two miles. The stone head at the bottom of the stream stands as high as a platform, and there is a passage in the middle of the stone platform, from which water flows down. The scenery is very beautiful.

Climb the mountain from here, turn the mountain mouth and walk down, and see a flat valley called monk garden. This valley is surrounded by many peaks.

Walk about a mile from the end of the flat land, then climb a hill, meander along the stream in front of the canyon, and walk another mile to Wei Yun Temple. The mountain is deep and foggy, and there is no one in the temple. The Buddha in the Buddhist temple was exposed to air conditioning for a long time without incense, and the stove in the kitchen had already been extinguished.

After wandering for a long time, it rained harder, as if urging us to go quickly, so the guide went out of the temple. Walking out of Xikou, the tour guide saw a boat, so he quickly stopped and boarded it.

The ship is flying downstream, sailing fast, my clothes and shoes are wet, and the water is very cold. I don't even have time to dry my clothes, let alone ask the cliffs on both sides of the stream. The mountain stream twists and turns, boarding in the afternoon, about 40 miles, and when it gets dark, the boatman sails 30 miles at night and berths at Dongjiangkou.
