Palm oil contains high content of stearic acid. Stearic acid can help handmade soap to be stronger and not easy to disperse during use. We all know that coconut oil has a good foaming degree and can make big and round bubbles, but the bubbles don't last long. At this moment, a supporting role appeared. Palm oil can help coconut oil bubbles grow bigger and last longer, so I always like to put them together in the formula. On the one hand, hardness has foaming degree, and pure coconut oil soap is enough. I made it when I first came into contact with handmade soap. My shampoo is super fluffy and shiny. But for me, my hands are extremely dry, which is a great challenge. I have a friend with super oily hair, who washes his hair every morning, otherwise his hair will feel like a whole bucket of oil. I washed her hair with pure coconut oil soap, but she could wash it for two days. Regarding coconut oil, Maeda's book says not to exceed 20%. I believe many people who have studied this book will abide by it, but there are too many examples that tell me that more than 20% coconut oil will not make the skin worse! And super easy to use. On the contrary, I think that if we are limited to some viewpoints, we will feel that this is wrong and that is wrong when designing formulas. If we jump out of this circle, you will find that there are too many formulas to try. Speaking of formula design of handmade soap, let me talk about my method of designing formula. First, I will think about what kind of human skin it is. Usually in summer, I will add a high proportion of coconut oil to the handmade soap formula for oily skin, with cleanliness as the first priority. Deep cleaning is the most important part for oily skin, but it can't make the washed skin too dry, so I will mix it with some refreshing oils, such as mustard oil, sesame oil, hazelnut oil and grape seed. If it is a dry place like Beijing, I will add a little moisturizing oil moderately, of course, with reference to the fatty acid content as the proportion. Palm oil can increase the hardness and help the foaming degree, so someone added an ultra-high proportion of palm oil to the formula, which I think is acceptable. Usually, when I design the handmade soap formula, I will add about 50% hard oil, which is the least error-prone method for beginners to design the handmade soap formula for the first time, and there is another very important factor.
