Even if I failed the whole world, I still love you —— Comment on The Big Fish Begonia

After the release of "Big Fish Begonia", there was a flood of hot comments. However, perhaps the expectations for this film are too high, and there are many people who spit in the bursts of praise. After watching the movie, I read many film reviews from a rational and objective point of view and wrote one on a whim.

First of all, I want to criticize the official blog of CCTV6 and completely solve the mystery of the film (I forgot the name of the official blog, and the blog was deleted by the blogger because of the poor film review, haha). The official blog's evaluation of "Big Fish Begonia" is not as aggressive as an official micro-senior film review, and the analysis is too superficial, which does not go deep into the essence of the film at all. Bad review! Of course, there may be too many bad reviews, so the official blog simply deleted Weibo and stopped commenting on the film.

The following is only a personal opinion, don't spray if you don't like it.

First of all, it is undeniable that this film is too literary and detached from the mainstream stream of consciousness recognized by the public. It is difficult to understand without the narrative and embellishment of the old Toona sinensis. In other words, the director set his mind high when he made this film. Therefore, in the eyes of many people, some deliberately blurred parts of the film seem difficult to understand, and some scenes that need to be examined and judged with artistic eyes are vulgar to ordinary people.

Having said that, some people may think that I am exaggerating and holding "Big Fish Begonia" to the sky. In fact, the film is flawed, but these flaws are obvious to all, so I don't need to take them out and spit them out. What I want to say is the inner essence that many people can't see and feel.

Let me analyze them one by one, from the shallow to the deep.

First, draw materials. It is not difficult to find that "Big Fish Begonia" is a film with strong literary and cultural flavor in China. The names of the characters come from Zhuangzi, Shan Hai Jing and Biography of Immortals. Zhuangzi's "Happy Travel" begins with a few words: There are fish in the north, named Kun. Kunda, thousands of miles away. Since the material is so profound, the audience should think that their ideas are also far-reaching, so don't look at it with secular eyes. The framework of the main scenes in the film is taken from Hakka tulou. The setting of tulou also paved the way for the development of the plot. The "immortals" who are in charge of the law of human operation all live together, which is the embodiment of team spirit and the tradition of living together.

Just now, I said that the name was taken from Happy Travel, so the second point, naturally, is to say that it is intentional. The foundation of the whole paper is based on the theory of Taoism, and the heaven is good. If you do the opposite, the world will return from "being" to "nothing". Toona sinensis goes against the sky, so the backward flow of seawater makes the world empty. In my opinion, in addition to the elaboration of "existence", the film also has extremely important matters of life and death and heaven and earth. About the part of human nature, I want to talk about it separately later. In Zhuangzi, life and death are connected. Death is another kind of life, and life is only the combination of soul and body before death. There is an allusion of "Zhuang Zhou Meng Die" in Zhuangzi, which expresses a parallel theory of transformation and status quo, which is somewhat similar to the modern parallel world outlook. As for heaven and earth, in the world where Toona sinensis and Shu live, their heaven is the sea on earth, a theory that can understand heaven and earth, and also China's view of heaven and earth that lasted for centuries in ancient times. In many fairy tales (especially Buddhist and Taoist allusions), the enlightened people can sit in Shandong village or on the top of the mountain to become immortals.

The third point is about emotion. Emotional problems are actually the main source of contradictions in the development of stories. I can't help laughing and crying when I see a picture of a "mentally retarded woman" and "pity me" on the Internet. The person who said this may not have experienced the adversity of "the person you love doesn't love you" or "the person who loves you doesn't love you". The relationship is too smooth. Love and hate have nothing to do with right or wrong, but with or without love. It is sad that the person you love doesn't love you, and we can't decide how others feel. What we can do is to fight for it and protect it with our own care and attention. Loving someone is your own business and an obsession in human nature, and this obsession is precisely the catalyst for the development of the plot of "Big Fish Begonia". Everything stems from Chun's obsession with Kun, gratitude to Kun, and obsession with Chun. In addition, Chunchun grandpa's open-minded mind and the affection between grandparents also made me particularly moved.

In addition, there are some things I don't understand about this film. First, I can't understand the rat girl's nostalgia for the world. Why does she repeatedly emphasize: "The world is a good place?" Is she simply greedy for human scenery, or is there another reason? Secondly, it is a sentence that Lingpo said to the vast water color when the sea water was flowing backwards: "There are some dirty things here, so we should wash them well." I have never understood the meaning of this sentence. Third, it is a sentence that roars the world when autumn is drunk: "You are loved by the gods!" " "At the beginning, the old man of Toona sinensis said that they are not immortals. They are in charge of the running laws of the world, but there are days behind them. Then, is Baba, who was raised by a powerful grandmother without father or mother, a "special" god?

In short, the feeling of "big fish begonia" is generally as mentioned above. Many feelings can't be expressed in words. For example, when I was watching a movie, I cried twice in the same place. That feeling is direct and indescribable. As a literary film, it is not perfect, but life is not perfect, especially feelings. There is no need to worry too much about gains and losses for too long.

Postscript: After writing the film review, I went to Weibo (directed by Zhang Chun) to watch Breathing Can't Say, only to find that my understanding was still too superficial. The fish at the beginning of the film is the same as the fish that Kun spit out after being reshaped. Did you find this detail?
