This small port town in Guangxi is only separated from Vietnam by a river, and you can still eat authentic Vietnamese food.

Dongxing is the port city from Guangxi to Vietnam by land. It is only separated by a river from Mong Cai City in Vietnam. In the past, you could start a day trip to Vietnam here.

Before I came here, I didn’t understand the relationship between Fangchenggang and Dongxing. Here I will give you a brief introduction. Dongxing is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fangchenggang. To go to Dongxing, you must first go to Fangchenggang. Mainly to see the sea and eat seafood, while the highlight of Dongxing is mainly the one-day trip to Vietnam (suspended during YQ) and experiencing the exotic customs influenced by Vietnam.

It takes more than an hour to take a bus from Fangcheng Port to Dongxing. You can take a bus from the passenger terminal in Fangcheng District, or you can take a bus from the passenger terminal in the port area. There are also direct buses to Dongxing from Fangchenggang North Station.

Originally I thought there wasn’t much to do in Dongxing. After all, we can’t go on a one-day trip to Vietnam during the YQ period. I basically finished it in one day, and I didn’t want to carry my suitcase from Fangcheng Port to get there again. Dongxing, but it turns out that one day is really not enough. I strongly recommend that you stay in Dongxing for at least one night. Let me talk about my travel and food experience here in detail.

There are two must-visit places in Dongxing. One is the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, and the other is the port. These two places are right next to each other. Dongxing is not a big city in general. There are many private motorcycles, all of which are motorcycles. If you don’t have a bicycle, it will be very convenient if you know how to ride a motorcycle. The distance from the bus station to the port is not far or close.

Regarding the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, I was full of expectations before going there because I have been to Vietnam before and some Vietnamese snacks are quite good, so I wanted to bring some from Dongxing.

But I was a little disappointed after going there. How should I put it? It’s just used to deceive people who have never been to Vietnam, right? I don’t know whether it has always been like this, or whether it was caused by the lack of communication between the two countries during the YQ period. I can only say what I felt this time.

I read on the Internet that there are many Vietnamese specialties, but in fact many things in the market are not made in Vietnam, but domestically produced. There may not be even one-tenth of the things made in Vietnam.

However, the prices in each store here are quite consistent. Basically, the prices of the same snacks are not much different at each store. I bought the yogurt recommended by many people online, and I bought it at the same store. The yogurt I've had in Vietnam is far different. It tastes like saccharin and additives, and it can last for a long time when stored at room temperature. Who knows how many preservatives it contains.

Many dried mangoes, coconut sugar, durian sugar, cashew nuts, etc. are also made in China. I bought a board of coconut sugar. I won’t tell you where it was made. The taste is still good. The durian one The sugar is just average.

So if you have the mentality of going to Dongxing to buy Vietnamese specialties, I suggest you give it up and just take a look. In addition, don’t buy durian near the port. It is better to buy it at the local market.

After leaving the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, it is the national gate of Dongxing Port. Standing here, you can see Vietnam on the other side of the river.

Before YQ, the ports were open. You can also go to Mong Cai City opposite for a day trip to Vietnam, just walk across the bridge below.

Now that the port is temporarily closed, we can only take a brief look. At the boundary marker locating the Qinzhou boundary of the Qing Dynasty, there is a high wall on the other side of the road. The river outside the high wall is the boundary river between the two countries, and Vietnam is on the other side of the river.

Standing on the port side, you can see several buildings on the Vietnamese side. On our side of the river, there are iron fences to prevent people from crossing.

This feeling of being so close to another country is really amazing. Although I have been to other countries before, this is really the first time for me to be so close to Dongxing. When I went to Manzhouli, there was a fee to visit the national gate, so I didn’t go there.

Although you can’t go to Vietnam for a day trip now, if you come to visit, you might as well stay in a hotel next to the port for one night. You can overlook Vietnam directly from the upper floor, and the price is relatively cheap now. For only 400 yuan, you can stay in a room with a view of the Vietnamese city. It is still a five-star hotel. The better Ramada has a higher floor and has a better view. The cheaper Vienna can see the city view on the other side.

To be honest, I am quite regretful because my luggage is still in Fangchenggang and I cannot come to Dongxing again the next day, so I cannot experience the view of the Vietnamese city from a high place. It should be quite interesting. of.

Now that we have finished talking about things to do in Dongxing, let’s talk about the food here. If you want to eat Vietnamese food, you must stay in Dongxing for a few more days. Fangchenggang is a city of immigrants. Not only is Vietnamese food incomparable to Dongxing, The overall food is not as distinctive as Dongxing.

There are many Vietnamese restaurants in Dongxing. Due to time constraints, I only visited three, so I’m not particularly sure about the quality of Vietnamese food here.

I always thought that the noodles here would be influenced by Vietnam, with more beef noodles. However, after I went there, I discovered that the specialty here is chicken noodles.

The most recommended ones online are Hua Jie’s Chicken Noodles and Sanjie’s Chicken Noodles. Although they are not as famous as Hua Jie’s, they are said to be more popular among locals.

I have eaten at both of these restaurants. Fortunately, I met the third sister on the way to Huajie and tried it first. In comparison, Sister Hua’s chicken smells too strong, and the noodles are a bit hard. Personally, I prefer Sanjie’s chicken noodles. The chicken soup is fresh but not fishy, ??and the noodles are softer and tender. Even the noodles and the soup are not enough for me. Eat it all.

There are two things about eating noodles here that are the same as those in Vietnam. One is to squeeze lemon juice instead of vinegar. I especially like this natural sour taste when eating noodles. The second is to add a lot of lettuce leaves. Some stores add lettuce leaves by themselves.

Although I don’t like Sister Hua’s family, there are indeed many locals in their family.

I also ordered their Vietnamese baguette. Because I had eaten it in Vietnam before, I was looking forward to it. Although the appearance looked good, it was. . emm. . It's completely different from Vietnamese baguette. I don't understand why the outside bread is fried.

In addition, the Vietnamese spring rolls in Dongxing are also worth trying. They cost one yuan each, which is quite cost-effective.

I also ate at a crab noodle shop in Dongxing. It has more Vietnamese flavor than chicken noodle. It has a very fresh taste. The group price is 22 yuan at Yueyue Cafe. In addition to crab meat, the crab noodle also has shrimp and shrimp. The large shrimps, the arrangement of the side dishes and sauces when they are served are very Vietnamese.

The set meal also includes a portion of watermelon juice. The watermelon juice has no water added at all. It is pure juice and extremely sweet. In addition, the environment here is also good

By the way, there is also a sugar water shop in Dongxing called Yi Zhong Tang Shui. It is a chain store in Dongxing and the price is not expensive. In Guangxi, I really have several cups of sugar water every day. rhythm.

I don’t have much say in Dongxing’s food. I wonder if anyone has any delicious recommendations. It’s too hasty to go back and forth in one day. I still hope to stay here for a few more days if I have the opportunity in the future.

In addition, when going to Dongxing, remember to buy the ticket back to Fangchenggang in advance. It seems that the last bus here is at five o'clock. The destination is to Fangchenggang North Station. The bus to Fangchenggang Passenger Terminal ends here. The operation time was still early, which I didn't expect, and I almost missed the bus back to Fangchenggang.
