Comparison before and after road construction

On July 7, a boulder hit a vehicle in Derong County (near the Grand Canyon of Jinsha River), about 200 kilometers south of the G3 18 Sichuan-Tibet line in Haitonggou. The driver was only injured in the arm and was successfully rescued.

For Tibet, people have been longing for it for a long time, eager to drive from Chengdu to the Sichuan-Tibet line and make a self-driving loop through Sichuan, Tibet, Qinghai and Gansu. But for its more than 5,000 kilometers of plateau road conditions, the spirit is treading on thin ice. Is the road condition on the Sichuan-Tibet line really complicated?

I have been to the Sichuan-Tibet line three times, passing through 3 18 and 3 17. Other routes to Tibet also include the G2 14 Yunnan-Tibet line, the G 109 Qinghai-Tibet line and the G2 19 Xinzang line. Generally speaking, the road conditions on the Sichuan-Tibet line are quite different from most people's cognition.

1, what is the real road condition of the Sichuan-Tibet line? How much is the dirt road? Do I have to drive an SUV?

The real road condition of Sichuan-Tibet line: 95% of the roads are asphalt roads, which is no different from the common national roads. The remaining 5%, due to geological changes and river erosion, is in the state of road construction, and there will be 10 to 20 kilometers of dirt roads.

Such road conditions are normal on almost any national highway. Therefore, a car can be competent to drive a small car on the Sichuan-Tibet line, and it is not necessary to drive an off-road vehicle.

2. Is the Sichuan-Tibet line safe? Are there many falling rocks?

In July, September, 165438+ 10, and March, I had the experience of driving in Tibet (Sichuan-Tibet line was only visited three times, and G2 19 in March was the new Tibet line). Sichuan travels 5,000 kilometers to Tibet, and there are always eight or nine "rollover scenes" along the way. On average, every 500 kilometers, a traffic accident will happen.

In fact, even if it is replaced by other national highways, this problem cannot be avoided. For example, the same is true of G3 19 National Highway in Fuling section of Chongqing. When the mileage is long, something will happen. It's like a big sleep. Generally speaking, the Sichuan-Tibet line is still very safe, and there are some falling rocks along the way, especially the Yalong River Canyon in Xinlong County and the Nujiang Grand Canyon in basu county, which are close to the river and have more falling rocks. The boulder mentioned above is located in the Jinsha River Grand Canyon. Generally, only a few pebbles will fall from the rockfall section, some are as big as bowls, and some are like wheels, which basically will not cause interference to self-driving vehicles.

3. What are the requirements for vehicles on the Sichuan-Tibet line? 1.6 can the self-breathing car cross the mountain pass at an altitude of 5000 meters?

As I have said, there are no cars that can't get to Tibet, only people who can't get to Tibet. The average elevation of the Sichuan-Tibet line is over 4,000 meters, and it needs to cross two passes with an elevation of 5,000 meters, one is Dongdashan with an elevation of 5 130, and the other is Milla Mountain with an elevation of 50 13 meters. Many self-driving drivers think the altitude is too intuitive. They think that there must be something wrong with the power of an ordinary car to climb such a high mountain pass, plus the altitude sickness of the car. What if I stop halfway?

In fact, this kind of worry is one-sided. Although it is necessary to climb the snowy mountain pass at an altitude of 5000 meters, the altitude difference during crossing is not great. The process of sichuan-tibet railway crossing the mountain pass is a gradual climb, and the slope visible to the naked eye is very small, which is much gentler than Chaotianmen and Geleshan Forest Park in Chongqing. I can tell you responsibly that it is no problem for a car with a displacement of 1.6L to cross the 5000m mark on the Sichuan-Tibet line under normal full load.

If the Sichuan-Tibet Railway must have any requirements for vehicles, I can only sum up one thing: wheels are enough.

4. What are the passes along the Sichuan-Tibet line and how high is the altitude?

The Sichuan-Tibet line starts in Chengdu, Sichuan, and ends in Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region, passing through the grasslands of western Sichuan Plateau, Shangri-La, Hengduan Mountains, Sanjiang River Basin and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with uneven altitude changes.

Finally, this map is called "Overview of the North-South Line between Sichuan and Tibet". I asked an artist to do it for half a day (it cost five hundred and twenty pieces of silver). The map shows the cities, passes and scenic spots along the Sichuan-Tibet line, as well as their altitudes and locations, which can be used as reference materials for self-driving.

Five, self-driving road book

Each of the classic routes of Tibet tourism has a detailed road book, which contains information such as accommodation, scenic spot arrangement, matters needing attention and so on. The rest of the tourism information, such as altitude, road conditions, refueling, cost details, the best time to play, etc. , which is detailed in the column.

For more travel guides and practical dry goods in Tibet, Xinjiang, western Sichuan, Qinghai and Gannan, friends who travel on the road can check my column for details, which contains the daily itinerary, scenic spots and accommodation plans of each travel route, or you can ask me privately (you can write privately after you pay attention). Have a nice trip!
