My thoughts after reading "The Destruction of the Old Summer Palace"

When I finished reading "The Destruction of the Old Summer Palace", there were only two words in my heart: hatred and regret.

The Old Summer Palace is located on a plain north of Haidian Town in the northwest suburbs of Beijing. It was originally the royal garden of the Qing Dynasty. It was built in the forty-eighth year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty and was basically completed in the ninth year of the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Since then, the Jiaqing, Daoguang and Xianfeng dynasties have repeatedly repaired and expanded the building, which lasted for more than 150 years. Although its name is Old Summer Palace, it is actually composed of many small gardens on the east, west and south sides, including Old Summer Palace, Changchun Garden and Wanchun Garden. There are also many rare treasures and famous paintings and calligraphy in the garden. Therefore, it is also a museum, art gallery and royal garden famous both at home and abroad.

Unfortunately, the good times did not last long. It was precisely because of these precious historical relics that the ambitions of the invaders were hooked. As a result, Britain and France joined forces to attack the Old Summer Palace. On October 6, 1860, these hateful bandits rushed into Beijing. They had advanced guns and artillery. Although there were many of us at that time, our equipment was backward, so we had to fall to the enemy's guns. . Then, they broke into the Old Summer Palace, not sparing any treasures, taking away all small items such as jewelry and pearls, and destroying all heavy objects such as large vases. However, this group of bandits did not give up. On October 18th and 19th, 3,500 invaders were ordered to set fire to the park. The fire burned for three days until the crystallization of our people's hard work and sweat was destroyed. Turn into ashes.

The glorious palace with golden walls - gone. The exquisite pavilions and pavilions are gone. Precious historical relics - gone! There is only ruins. October 6, 1860, please don’t let us forget this hateful day.
