What is cloud storage and its significance?

Cloud storage is a mode of online storage (English: cloud storage), that is, data is stored in multiple virtual servers usually hosted by third parties, rather than exclusive servers. Hosting companies operate large-scale data centers, and people who need data storage hosting can meet their data storage needs by buying or renting storage space from them.

According to the requirements of customers, data center operators prepare storage virtualization resources at the back end and provide them in the form of storage pools, so that customers can use this storage pool to store files or objects themselves. In fact, these resources may be distributed on many server hosts.

Not all application data requires SSD performance. Frequently accessed data can be migrated to disk-based storage. Both ssd and disk-based storage support standard I/O protocols, so there is no need to change applications when migrating them from local hardware to the cloud.

You can use any file system supported by the operating system through a connected direct SSD or disk drive. One disadvantage of this mode is that when the machine instance is shut down, the data on the hard disk drive will be deleted. In order to save data, data must be copied to another storage system, such as object storage in the cloud.

Another disadvantage of attached storage systems is that attached storage systems can only be connected to one instance. However, Microsoft Azure has a file storage system, which can realize SMB-compatible file sharing and can be shared across multiple instances. This is useful when migrating applications to a cloud that requires regular file system services, or when multiple instances need to access the same data.
