English sentences are ever-changing, but there are actually three basic sentence patterns.

Sentence components include subject, predicate, object, predicative, attributive, adverbial, object, complement, apposition language.

Parts of speech include nouns, pronouns, numerals, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections.

The subject and object are served by nouns or words equivalent to nouns. The predicate is acted by the verb.

Predicates are composed of adjectives, prepositional phrases, nouns, pronouns, numerals, locative adverbs, or words equivalent to nouns or adjectives.

Attributives are acted by adjectives, prepositional phrases or words equivalent to adjectives.

Adverbials are served by adverbs, prepositional phrases or words equivalent to adverbs.

The word categories that serve as object complements are similar to predicates.
