Contrast colors are two groups of colors that will turn black together, such as yellow turning purple and red turning green. Putting contrasting colors together will give you a bright feeling.

Ewald Herring, a physiologist in China, put forward the theory of complementary color processing in 1950s. He believes that the human eye has three pairs of complementary color processing mechanisms, namely blue yellow, red green and black and white. In each pair, two can't appear at the same time, two are complementary, and only one can prevail. The output signals of the three complementary mechanisms have different proportions, which makes people feel different.

Hailin put forward this theory because it is supported by negative afterimage phenomenon. For example, if you look at the red flowers for a long time and then at the white background, you will see the blue flowers. See fig. 7. Look at the "ten" on the red flower for half a minute first. When you look at the white paper, blue flowers will appear faintly on the white paper. If the flowers are yellow, white paper will show blue flowers; If the flowers are deep red, the white paper will show the green flowers.
