Classification of lures

Lu Ya Rod

Encyclopedia Business Card

Lu Ya originates from the pronunciation of English (Lure). The original meaning is to seduce and tempt. The so-called Lu Ya Fishing is the bionic bait fishing method, also known as artificial bait fishing. It is a method of imitating weak creatures to trigger attacks by big fish. Artificially processed bionic bait imitates the movements or sounds of insects, fish, etc. on the water surface or in the water to lure fish to bite or bite. Make an attack.

Indispensable equipment for lures

1. Lure rod

2. Lure wheel (water drop spinning wheel or drum wheel are both acceptable)

3. Fishing line

4. Bionic bait is also called minnow bait

Identification method

The lure rods are different For using a floating pole, it is entirely dependent on controlling the lure to catch the fish, so the sensitivity, toughness and overall coordination of the pole are very important.

Specific judgment method: Hold the pole with your right hand, press your elbow down, and let the elbow joint rest close to the bottom of the pole. For lightly adjusting the pole below 10-30g, open the tiger's mouth, extend the index finger, and rest it on the pole. On the pole body, let the elbows, hands and pole be integrated. Then, without moving the elbow joint, shake the forearm and wrist up and down. The angle should not exceed 45 degrees. Feel the rebound of the pole during the shaking process, the position of the bending point, and the strength of the bottom handle relative to the middle and front part.

Be careful to shake up and down, not horizontally or in other directions. Just like you lift the tip of the pole and then quickly use the tip of the pole to shock the object in front, let the hand and the pole move at the same time. When the pole moves to a horizontal position, stop the arm hard and keep the forearm horizontal. The pole will continue to move due to inertia. Bend downwards, from which you can see the location of the bending point and the rebound energy.

As for the position of the bending point, the famous fishing properties often found on poles abroad are: S, F, etc. S (Slow) stands for slow tuning, and the specific manifestation is that the bending point is farther back. This kind of rod mainly uses the whole body and the middle and rear parts, so that you can fully enjoy the pleasure of fishing. The overall feeling of the rod is very soft. (But if the design is not good, your waist will feel weak and your head will feel heavy). F (fast) is quick to adjust, the bending point is forward, and the middle and rear parts are much stronger than the front tip, which is a bit similar to a fighting rod.

No matter what the fishing characteristics are, a good pole should have the following characteristics: the center of gravity is at the back, it feels comfortable in the hand, and the curve is smooth. When the pole shakes downward, there should only be an arc. (If you try it with a pole above 6.3 meters, you will find that the front end fluctuates, the middle becomes the fulcrum, does not move much, and the back end also fluctuates slightly) If this phenomenon occurs on the lure rod, it is recommended that you do not buy it.

Resilience is limited by the design of the pole and is a reflection of the mechanical properties of the pole. A good lure rod has excellent resilience and can maintain enough "waist strength" after hitting the fish so as not to consume too much physical energy during walking the fish. It can also increase the speed of fishing, which is very useful for sea fishing when encountering migratory fish schools. Big help.

How to test the resilience: Hold the front and back handles of the handle with both hands, swing the rod body from diagonally upward to diagonally downward, and then stop suddenly with your hands. At this time, the rod then bends and rebounds immediately. Vibrate back and forth a few times and then stop. The faster the rebound and the fewer vibrations, the better the resilience. After swinging the pole for a long time, you will have a feeling. At this time, the rebound feels good, as if the pole is full of power, the waist and back are tightened, the tip is bent, and the tip is immediately pulled back. This requires long-term practice to find the feeling.

Accessories

The main accessories of the lure rod include line loops (referred to as guide eyes), pulley seats, handles, tail pieces, decorative rings, hooks, etc.

1. Line loop

Commonly used types include single-leg and double-leg. Single legs are often used for straight-handle light-tune and straight-handle mid-tune lure rods

These line loops are composed of 2 parts: the bracket and the porcelain ring. The outermost metal part is called the bracket. The bracket is stamped from a whole stainless steel plate and then flanged in a mold. Since the lure rod has to withstand corrosion from sea water and salt spray, the line loop bracket must be made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The innermost ring is called the "porcelain ring". There are probably two reasons why it is called this:

(1) The earliest porcelain rings were ordinary ceramics.

(2) Most of them are still ceramic compounds, including the "SIC" silicon carbide ceramic ring to be mentioned later.

The classification of wire loops is based on the shape of the stent, the type of the porcelain ring, and the outer diameter of the porcelain ring. Moreover, each manufacturer has different naming methods, resulting in the same product having various names. Sample. Non-industry personnel cannot tell the difference.

The classification of porcelain rings is relatively standard, and each factory is almost the same

The "SIC" porcelain ring is a new material developed by Fujifilm in Japan: "silicon carbide reinforced ceramics". Compared with the previous generation of "alumina reinforced ceramics", it has four advantages: higher hardness; lighter weight; better heat dissipation and lower friction coefficient. Therefore, it is very popular and widely used in high-end poles.

The criteria for judging the quality of wire loops are:

(1) The strength of the bracket material and the anti-corrosion and weather resistance after surface treatment of the bracket. I once made a comparison with a single-leg wire loop. The result is that the strength of a domestic bracket is weaker than the Fuji bracket, so it will be affected to a certain extent when catching fish.

(2) Models of porcelain rings. Currently, there are four channels for factories in Weihai to use porcelain rings: Suzhou, South Korea, and Japan (usually the entire finished wire-passing ring is imported), and a small amount is made locally in Weihai. How big is the quality difference between them? No one or authoritative organization can comment, so everyone decides which material to use based on the price of the pole.

There are two types of lure rods: straight handles and gun handles. The difference in the line loops is: straight handles generally use single-leg guide rings, with a small total quantity and relatively large size; It is a guide ring for both legs, with a large number and a relatively small size. This is due to the difference in their use: the straight handle lure rod is used with the guide ring downward, while the gun handle lure rod is used with the guide ring facing upward (equipped with a drum wheel). If the number of guide rings is small, it will be used as a rod. When bent, the tight fishing line will rub against the rod, affecting its use.

2. Wheel seat

The function of the wheel seat is to fix the fishing reel, which is mainly divided into two categories: tubular and plate-shaped. Among them, tubular ones are divided into two categories: straight handles and gun handles. There are many sub-categories below, and there are fewer plate-shaped ones. Commonly used lure rods include:

Materials used to make tubular wheel seats mainly include ABS plastic, nylon, aluminum alloy, etc. Prices also increased sequentially. Many wheel bases produced by informal manufacturers have the biggest flaw: the slot is too small, so the fishing wheel cannot be installed! This situation mainly occurs on poles with relatively small tonality, and I have encountered it several times. Therefore, when you buy a lure rod, it is best to experiment with a fishing reel.

Plate wheel seats are basically useless in China, but they are available abroad.

Methods to judge the quality of tubular wheel seats:

(1) First look at the appearance, whether there are defects, spurs, burrs, the smoothness and flatness of the flat surface. Because the tubular wheel seat is an injection molded part, the product has mold gaps, gates and ejector openings. The quality of these parts reflects the quality and manufacturing level of the mold. Once there are defects, the mold must be modified.

(2) Look at the feel: Turn the nut by hand and feel the resistance. The smaller the resistance, the more uniform it is, and the better the quality. Many wheel seat nuts of poor quality have different resistance in different parts, and they feel "sometimes loose and sometimes tight".

(3) There is also a groove on the threaded part on the back of the wheel base, which is used to prevent the clamp from dislocating. Hold the clamp connected to the nut tightly with your hand and turn it. If the clamp If it rotates and breaks away from the groove, the quality will not pass.

The main purchase channels for wheel bases in Weihai area include: local factories, Taiwan-funded enterprises in the south, South Korea, and Fuji from Japan. Price and quality have also increased in sequence. Japanese Fuji accessories are generally used on high-end poles.

Workmanship

Rods with the same tonality, weight, and specifications have very different prices due to different workmanship, sometimes even several times more than the cost of the rod itself! This is true of all rods. Therefore, when you see that the parameters are almost the same and the prices are very different, don't feel that you don't understand.

I think there are mainly the following points to judge the workmanship of a lure rod:

1. Material straightness

Lure rods are generally longer. Some single sections are as long as 2.4 meters, which makes material production extremely difficult! Since making materials is a physical/chemical reaction process, accompanied by changes in temperature and internal stress, it is almost impossible to ensure that the materials are straight. When selecting a lure rod, insert the rod, align the guide ring, hold the rod with both hands, place it on your chest, raise the tip of the rod slightly, look for a white or gray background to avoid interference, concentrate, and stare at the tip of the rod ( Generally, the tip is easier to bend) and you can see the bend. Sometimes rotating the rod reveals more bend. Obviously bending is not necessary, but it is impossible not to have it at all (you can ask for this for about 2,000 yuan or more). This cannot be quantified, it all depends on your own feeling.

2. The "spine" of the material - especially the gun handle and rod should be inspected

You may wonder: How can the material have a "spine"? The "spine" mentioned here is English The name "SPAN" refers to a relatively rigid area in the longitudinal direction of the material. It is like attaching a 1mm thick and 2mm wide steel bar to a 2mm wall-thick steel pipe along the longitudinal direction, and using welding and other methods to tightly combine the steel bars. On steel pipes, when bending steel pipes in the future, this direction will be more difficult to bend than other directions.

Theoretically, there are "spines" in all materials, but the degree is different. When I see the promotion of "uniform wall thickness", it is to avoid "spine". The density difference of fiber arrangement will also cause "spine".

How to check the "spine": insert the pole and align the guide. Ring, hold the pole with your left hand about 1 meter away from the top, place the index finger of your right hand lightly on the thinnest end of the pole, and then slowly press down to allow the pole to bend. When your fingers feel stronger, stop pressing down and slowly rotate your left hand back and forth. If you look at the rod body, you will feel that the tension is high at certain angles and low at other angles.

For a straight-handled rod, the "spine" should be at the top (guide ring). (back side), the gun handle rod is just the opposite. If the "vertebral column" is not found correctly when the guide ring is attached, or the "vertebral column" is not found at all, the rod body will twist when force is applied, which will seriously affect the use.

3. Guide ring straightness

There are many guide rings on lure rods and the rod body is thin, so aligning the guide rings has become a technical problem. Generally speaking, the manufacturing of lure rods has a long history. Experienced factories are better, new factories are relatively worse. The identification method is the same as the previous identification of material straightness, so I won’t repeat it.

4. Guide ring binding and painting quality

In the early days, after the fiberglass rods were tied with wires, they were first used to straighten the guide rings, then use an alcohol lamp to burn the burrs, apply primer, and then apply UV paint. The so-called UV paint is a kind of photosensitive paint that will quickly disappear under ultraviolet irradiation. Curing. The advantages of UV paint are fast efficiency and high brightness, but it has the biggest disadvantages: poor toughness, low strength, and poor adhesion.

Later, epoxy was gradually used. Resin (thick paint) replaces UV paint. The advantages of epoxy resin (thick paint) are: high strength, strong adhesion, high surface fullness, good feel and appearance, but the efficiency of epoxy resin (thick paint) is lower than that of UV. Paint requires a certain curing temperature and has certain requirements for the cleanliness of the operating environment. Therefore, many small factories and low-end rods still use UV paint.

What needs to be reminded is that in order to ensure long-term use. When using, please be sure to choose a pole using epoxy resin (thick paint) technology (except of course if you want to remove the guide ring for DIY)

How to judge UV paint and epoxy resin (thick paint)

p>

1. According to the difference in adhesion, use your fingers to pull the guide ring bracket vigorously until large and recoverable deformation can be clearly seen. If it is UV paint, a slight "pop" can be heard. "If there is a cracking sound, you will see that the UV paint at the root of the guide ring bracket is delaminated, peeled off, and accompanied by whitening.

2. Use a hard object (nail, key, etc.) to lightly press it in an inconspicuous position. If it is UV paint, it will layer with the bottom layer like thin ice, while epoxy resin (thick paint) There will be no delamination, there will be an indentation that will disappear after a while.

The quality requirements for tying and painting mainly include the following points

1. The tying must be dense and not exposed.

2. The starting and ending edges should be even.

3. The thickness of the paint should be uniform, the edges should not be too long, and the edges should be even.

4. The painted surface should be free of bubbles, burrs, protrusions, foreign matter, etc.

5. The line shape should be full and beautiful, and there should be no grooves, hanging, etc.

The above is easy to say, but it is very, very difficult to do it all impeccably. Including Japanese S, D, G and other brands, there is no guarantee that all of them will be in place. Because these are manual operations rather than mechanized production.

Handle

The handle materials are mainly EVA and cork. Since more than 85% of the world's cork materials for fishing rods are imported from Portugal, cork resources are in short supply and expensive. Cork 2 is divided into pure natural cork, packaged cork, compressed cork, rubber cork, etc.; pure natural cork is divided according to surface quality: C grade, B grade, A grade, A A grade, AA A grade, cork wrapped sub-package EVA, compressed cork, etc.

So how do ordinary consumers tell the difference?

Cork and EVA are clearly distinguishable in appearance and hardness, and everyone can identify them. In order to make the most of the feel and appearance of natural cork, manufacturers have come up with the method of "cork wrapping": the exterior is pure cork skin, but the interior is made of EVA, compressed cork and other other materials, and they are bonded together through a certain process. Although this method solves the dilemma of cost and appearance, it is never used for high-end rods. But how to distinguish pure natural cork from clad cork? If the cork is wrapped with EVA, you can use the thumbs of both hands to overlap and press hard. If you can feel obvious elastic deformation, it is wrapped with EVA. If you can hardly feel the elastic deformation, it is not wrapped with EVA. Compressed cork refers to a mixture of small cork particles and special waterproof glue, and is pressed at high temperature. The hardness is slightly lower than that of pure cork, but the price is much more affordable. It is sometimes used on medium and low-end poles, and is often used to decorate the front seal with pure cork. Or decorate and seal. If it is packed with compressed cork, it is basically impossible for ordinary consumers to identify it unless the surface is cut.

That’s basically all the accessories. The rest of the hooks, tail pieces, decorative rings, etc. can be distinguished by their appearance, so I won’t go into details.

In short, a pole involves many aspects. When purchasing, you must decide which aspects are primary and which are secondary based on your actual needs. For ordinary consumers, tonality and feel come first, and the quality of accessories comes second, followed by topcoat, workmanship, etc.

But for high-priced poles, the situation should probably be reversed. Because big brands have good design capabilities, they probably will not bring products with wrong tonality and bad feel to the market, even if the tonality and feel are not good. Each brand is different, but the difference is so subtle that most people can't feel it.

Expand knowledge on lure rods

Intuitively, there are two types of lure rods: straight handle type (spinning) and gun handle type (casting). Fly rod (fly rod) )except. However, due to the many styles of artificial baits and the requirements for operating techniques, as well as differences in water areas and target fish, lure rods are divided into many fine types, such as: freshwater bass rods (bass rods), trout rods (trout rods) , fly rod (fly rod), sea bass rod (sea bass rod), squid rod (egi rod), boat fishing jigging rod (jigging rod) and so on.

Common parameters of S Lure Rod

The Lure Rod is light in weight and requires high quality of the guide ring on the rod because it needs to be constantly used during fishing. Toss. In general casting, a medium-adjusted rod is better to use. For surface-level operations, a fast or extra-fast rod can be used to maximize the vitality of the fake bait.

Here we talk about the freshwater bass rod (bass rod). The rods are expressed from soft to hard.

UL——Ultra light super soft

S bL——Light soft

ML——Medium light medium soft M——Medium medium

MH——Medium heavy medium hard

YH——Heavy Hard

XH——Extra heavy extra hard

XXH——Extra extra heavy extra hard

Divided according to the curve change (Action) of the rod

p>

S——Slow; M——Medium; MF——Medium fast; F——Fast; XF——Extra fast.

The above from S to XF means that the bending point of the pole is getting closer and closer to the front. Comparison between the POWER of the rod and LINE WT. (maximum tension of the line) & LURE WT. (bait weight):

The above data are not absolute and are for reference only. Different brands and markets will have slight differences.

Selection of rod length

In terms of freshwater lures, the usual lure rod length is between 5'0" and 7'6". Depending on the height, it can also be used in one hand It is advisable to hold the wheel base so that the other hand can touch the tip of the rod; there are two fishing methods for sea fishing lures in China, one is to use fresh water lures, and since sea fishing is done on breakwaters or piers, the rod length is usually The choice is between 8'0" and 11'0". The other is a throwing rod suitable for throwing lures on the reef. The length is usually 3.3 meters to 5.4 meters (the throwing rod is not the same as the lure rod. Use The same is true for artificial bait).
