Why can’t I get into trance while meditating and why do I feel drowsy?

It does not require entering into concentration, nor does it require a sense of energy. All appearances are false. In our practice, we just work hard and don’t care about the harvest!

Old man Yuan Yin’s teachings:

First of all, don’t ask for entering samadhi, asking for enlightenment, neither is required! Don’t ask for it, just recite the mantra, chant it with your mind and hear it, don’t ask for anything else, it will settle on its own! If you ask to enter samadhi, it won't be able to sedate, so if you just ask about hard work and not about harvest, you'll be fine! That’s it, all dharmas are in it! That’s it, right? So it’s Zen everywhere, all the time! Therefore, you can meditate when you are walking, you can meditate when you are sitting, and your body can be peaceful even when you are silent, talking, and moving!

When we sit down, we should be completely determined, without a single thought, and completely determined.

Think with the heart and hear with the ears. Reciting the mantra is done with the mind, not with the mouth. The ears should hear it, and it will be clear and refreshing. It tells you to hold your brain and thoughts still, and it will be easy to fall into concentration. When you get down from your seat, observe closely, notice where your thoughts originate, and don’t follow them. The realm is now, don't be moved by the realm, do this skill, it will be very fast. When you sit down, be completely determined and not think about a single thought. When the thought comes, let it come. Don't suppress it. As long as you don't run with it, don't follow it, don't follow it. The thought comes and sees it. In fact, when we recite the Buddha's name, we should also do this. When thoughts come, when we see them, we should not follow them. After the thoughts stop turning, it will be easy to enter concentration, and it will be easy to open up in concentration, open up wisdom, and see one's nature and become a Buddha. Therefore, when we recite mantras and recite Buddha's name, we should read them with our hearts and hear them with our ears. Only in this way can we enter samadhi. If you don't behave like this, you won't be in concentration. If you think about it in a messy way, you won't be able to do anything. Therefore, when we recite the mantra, we must hear it with our mind and ears, and use our ears to grasp the mind. This is the practice method of Guanshiyin Bodhisattva. Now we use the base of our ears to grasp and grasp our own will, but the will does not move. That is what Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva said, all six roots are taken in, and pure thoughts are followed one after another. When we truly recite the mantra and hear it clearly, our delusional thoughts will cease. When the delusional thoughts are not moving, suddenly, suddenly, the mind that can recite the mantra, the mind that can hold the mantra, and the mantra that are held are freed, that is pure thought.

When cultivating the Dharma, you should cultivate your mind, oh, posture, it doesn’t matter what you do.

As long as your mind is truly calm and peaceful, and your thoughts do not wander randomly, it will disappear naturally. Therefore, when we practice the Dharma, we must remember it with our minds and ears. This mantra is not a mantra that must be recited with your mouth or in your heart. If you recite it in your heart, your mind will stop working. If you hear the sound of your mantra, use your ears to grasp your mind. Grasp your mind, brain, and sixth consciousness. They will not move and enter samadhi. Well, it's just in the heart, not in the posture. Hear it with your mind and ears, pay attention to this. Recite the mantra in your heart, listen to it with your ears, recite the mantra in your own heart, the sound is silent, we don’t make a sound. Speaking out will hurt your anger. If you don't make a sound, you should recite the mantra in your heart. Listen to the silent sound of the mantra in your heart. Listen to it and stare at it. Just grasp the root of your mind with your ears and it will stop moving. Entered samadhi. Hey, ah, oh, just sit down. Ah, it’s not advisable to sit cross-legged when talking about lesbians. Because women, because this body tissue is different from men, ah, if not done well, there may be a risk of hemorrhage. Lesbian sex is the best. Don't ask for meditation when you sit down. Just settle quickly, settle quickly, and you won't be able to settle! Your request must be a delusion, right? It's even worse if you want to develop supernatural powers. You can't develop supernatural powers. All realms will come. It's not impossible. If there is no realm in meditation, it's impossible. It must be there. Just ignore it. If the devil comes, the devil will kill him, and if the Buddha comes, he will kill him. The Buddha didn't even pay attention. Hey, you want to be clean like this, naked, spotless, and free of anything. Is it okay if you hang a Buddha on your body? Therefore, it is right not to pursue anything, but it is wrong to seek something. Hurry up and enter concentration, develop magical powers, and become a Buddha------, wrong, wrong, wrong, no. You are originally a Buddha. Either you cultivate to become a Buddha or you return to your original self. Cultivation means to get rid of your attachment, to get rid of your pursuit, and to get rid of your desire to gain something.

This one must be lively. The one who can play a big role in the world is the one who is not attached to the situation. That is the true concentration.

So the Sixth Patriarch said very clearly, concentration does not mean sitting there without moving, concentration means not being confused about the situation. You see, it's very refreshing. It is not about sitting there motionless and entering concentration. This is not concentration. Coming out of concentration and entering concentration, this concentration is not correct concentration. There is a koan in Zen Buddhism. A woman entered samadhi next to Sakyamuni Buddha. Manjushri Bodhisattva came over and took a look. Oh, this woman is so rude. Why is she sitting next to the Buddha and entering samadhi? He pulled her out of samadhi. When he came in front of her, he pointed his finger at this woman, not out of concentration, not out of concentration, ah, not out of concentration.

This Manjusri Bodhisattva has great magical powers and lifted her up to the thirty-third level without leaving samadhi, oh. If you don't get out of samadhi, you will be thrown into the eighteen levels of hell, and you won't get out of samadhi either. Because this concentration is very deep. Sakyamuni Buddha said, "You can't make her come out of concentration. There is a Bodhisattva named Mingming below who can make her come out of concentration." Just as he was saying this, the Bodhisattva Ming Ming from below came. Hey, you came just in time. You asked this woman to come out of concentration. The Bodhisattva Ming Ming also thought, oh, this woman is out of concentration. Such a koan. Let me ask you all, Manjushri is the teacher of the seven Buddhas, the master of the seven Buddhas. That is, when Sakyamuni Buddha was born, he was the seventh Buddha, and there were six Buddhas in front of him. He is the teacher of the Seven Buddhas. Why can't this woman be called out of samadhi? And how can the little Bodhisattva Zongming below bring this woman out of samadhi? What's the reason? Let’s talk about it. What's the reason? Don't be afraid, it doesn't matter if you are wrong. (Disciple: Is it a matter of karma?) It’s irrelevant. It’s not a matter of karma. That is to say, one cannot have intellectual views. None of us can have an intellectual opinion. Manjushri Bodhisattva was the first to awaken. This woman fell into trance in front of the Buddha. Oh, she shouldn't have fallen into trance. This knowledge cannot arise. Manjushri Bodhisattva represents great wisdom and is called Great Wisdom Manjushri Bodhisattva, right? The Great Wish Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the Great Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the Great Compassionate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, and Manjusri Bodhisattva represent great wisdom. Great wisdom cannot give rise to knowledge. Ming Ming, what do you mean? The ignorant cannot be obtained, and all wisdom and wisdom cannot be obtained, alas. So don’t have the view that you can reach concentration with just a snap of your fingers. So let’s not be too clever. Always be careful not to be clever and knock out your cleverness. Confucius went to see Lao Tzu and asked, "Do you think Confucius is modest?" he asked Lao Tzu. Here, if I want to go high, I'm too slow. Oh, I'm great. I don't ask him, ouch. Confucius did not have this view. Lao Tzu said, attack your wisdom. Knock out your cleverness. To strike is to strike, you are you, and your wisdom strikes you down. If cleverness and wisdom are eliminated, then wisdom and intelligence in the world are undesirable. We want to prove the Tao. If we let go of all the worldly wisdom, cleverness, and unnecessary wisdom, and have an empty heart, we will achieve the Tao. Therefore, Patriarch Mahahuikao sung this koan: "Entering and emerging from concentration are samadhi and not correct concentration." Entering and emerging from concentration are not samadhi. There is no deviation from Zhengding. It is called great concentration, with no entry or exit, and concentration at all times. Therefore, the concentration mentioned is not the concentration of sitting there without moving, but the concentration of being unwavering and unconfused about the situation is true concentration. It's not about entering and exiting concentration, it's about being in concentration all the time.
