One day, Lao Dan and Confucius were traveling on the Yellow River. Confucius looked at the Taotao River and said with emotion: "The deceased is like a husband, staying up all night!"

Lao Dan said: "Heaven and earth are not pushed, the sun and the moon are self-evident, the stars are not commanded, and animals are born without man-made. This is natural, why bother people? " . Advocating benevolence and righteousness in music with great interest is far from human nature, just like beating drums to escape. The louder the sound, the farther the distance! "

After a pause, Lao Dan pointed to the river. "Why don't you learn the virtue of water?"

Confucius said, "What is the virtue of water?"

? Lao Dan: "Being a good person is like water. It is also a virtue to be able to manage everything without controversy and be hated by everyone. " Therefore, Jianghai can be the king of all the valleys, and with its goodness, it can be the king of all the valleys. The water in the world is not soft, and the strong can't win, which is also soft; Therefore, softness wins, and weakness wins. Because there is nothing in it, it can be harmonious. This shows that teaching without words is also beneficial to inaction. "

Soon after, Confucius returned to Shandong and didn't speak for three days. The disciples were very worried and rushed to hear the news: "Sir, it's nothing to see Lao Dan." Confucius said, "Bird, I know it can fly; Fish, I know it can swim; Beast, I know it can walk. Fly, take the arrow; Swimmer, hook it; People who walk are bound by nets.
