What I yearn for most is this kind of island: a few square kilometers of land in the vast blue waves, lush trees, and patches of white sandy beaches where the land meets the blue sea. Above, a few scattered coconut trees lie on their sides. Not far from the beach, small patches of modern civilization are scattered among the ocean, beach, and woods. There are a group of simple and unpretentious people living there. Tourists do not want to go there. There are too many, and the traces of the destruction of modern civilization are best not obvious.

Needless to say, the environment is of course blue sky, white clouds, and a little green dotted in the blue sea. The air is fresh, there is no pollution, there is no traffic noise, and there is no noise from the crowd in the downtown area.

I like the feeling of short-term isolation, without too much worldliness, no disputes between people, no violence, and harmony between man and nature. In the morning, the first ray of sunlight shines from the sea level. People get up early in twos and threes on the quiet streets, as well as fishermen returning late from the pier, busy for a new day's livelihood. In the summer of 2006, I graduated from the military academy and was assigned to Shantou. Before I had a chance to take a closer look at the urban streets of Shantou, I boarded the ferry to Nan'ao Island.

The weather was very good on the day we went to the island, with bright sun and blue sky and white clouds. Standing on the side of the boat, I saw rippling blue waves on the sea. The propeller at the end of the ferry stirred up waves with white foam, attracting groups of small fish to follow. This kind of scenery immediately eliminated my original depression about being assigned to an island.

When we boarded the Nan'ao Island Pier, we saw various large-scale tourist accommodation advertisements, small shops (vendors) selling fresh seafood and island specialties, and people with various visions filled the Pier Square, which was very lively. The island has good vegetation coverage, and the road around the island, built along the mountains and the sea, is winding, clean and beautiful. There are some sparse pine forests on both sides of the road around the island, with steep mountains on the left and the vast South China Sea on the right. The car is driving on it, sometimes going up and downhill, sometimes turning, sometimes the waves are crashing on the shore, and sometimes it is covered by the sun. When you open the car window, the salty and fresh sea breeze hits your face immediately, which is more enjoyable than a roller coaster in the city. This undoubtedly added a lot to my impression of the island.

I have worked and lived on Nan'ao Island for more than four years. Due to work, I have been to almost all the places I can go on Nan'ao Island, and I am quite familiar with its topography, landforms, customs and customs. It covers an area of ??more than 100 square kilometers and has a permanent population of more than 70,000.

There is not much flat land on the island, mainly mountains. There is a peak with an altitude of nearly 600 meters on both the east and west sides. Standing on the top of the peak, you can have a panoramic view of the entire island. Most of the mountains are rocky. Although there are not many tall trees on the mountains, the forest coverage rate of the entire island reaches 72%. Looking around, it is lush and lush. There is a small piece of flat land in the middle of the island, the narrowest point is only two kilometers, which is the seat of the county seat. It brings together the main streets, shops, banks, post offices, schools, hotels, etc. on the island. Although the sparrow is small, it has all the internal organs.

The folk customs on the island are simple, the military-civilian relationship is harmonious, the people live and work in peace and contentment, and there are many natural and cultural landscapes, mainly including: Huanghuashan Forest Park - the first island national forest park in the country; wind farm - the largest in Asia Island wind farm; Qing'ao Bay - known as the Hawaii of the East. It has a semicircular beach about three kilometers wide, with gentle slope, fine sand and clear water. It is a natural and high-quality seaside swimming spot; Zongbingfu - The country’s first coastal defense history exhibition hall, etc. The best resource on the island is seafood. It is rich in variety, fresh and cheap. Looking back on it makes people drool.

When I was on Nan'ao Island, I would often ride a bicycle in the evening and pass through the fields outside the station and the streets and alleys of the county, watching the people on the island leisurely or leisurely in the sunset. Get busy, then go to the beach to enjoy the sea breeze and listen to the sound of the sea. Sometimes after work or on weekends, I would call my friends and go to Haibin Road to order some seafood stir-fry, open a beer, drink in the salty sea breeze, talk about some random jokes, and enjoy the beauty of the island. .

For a long time, the main way to enter and leave the island is by ferry. During holidays and weekends, there are more vehicles traveling to South Australia, and there are often long queues at the ferry, sometimes as long as two or three kilometers. Whenever a typhoon approaches, or when encountering extreme weather with winds above level 8 and visibility less than 1 kilometer, ferries will be suspended. At this time, Nan'ao Island has become an isolated island, a "paradise" on the sea. People whose travel plans have been put on hold will sigh and enjoy this short period of tranquility. and Spring and Autumn". It's just a pity that people who travel on weekends have to find expensive hotels to stay temporarily, then call their work units to ask for leave and eagerly inquire about the resumption of flights. There have been many times when I had booked air tickets and bus tickets in advance for vacations and business trips, but my trip was delayed due to extreme weather.

I remember that on the eve of the Spring Festival in 2009, the weather was fine. My wife and I booked air tickets to go home for the New Year. However, when we arrived at the pier, we were told that there was heavy fog on the sea and the ship had been stopped. Having not been home for the Chinese New Year in four years, I was eager to go home, so I did not hesitate and made full use of the skills I had developed in the army to take my wife and get on the small speedboat that had a higher price on the side. When the speedboat was halfway through the voyage, the fog had already risen. As it continued forward, the fog became thicker and thicker, and the visibility suddenly dropped from more than 100 meters to less than 10 meters. There is no advanced equipment on the speedboat. You can only judge the direction by feeling, slow down and move forward gropingly. As we were walking, suddenly someone in the fog in front shouted "Stop the boat, stop the boat quickly!". The speedboat we were riding in immediately slowed down, shifted into reverse gear and returned. Later we found out that there was a small fishing boat in front of us that had hit the reef. Without the warning from that kind person, our small speedboat might have hit the rocks and the consequences would be disastrous.

The good news is that nearly four years after I left Nan'ao Island, at the beginning of this year, the Nan'ao Cross-Sea Bridge, which had been built for more than six years, was finally officially opened to traffic. The difficulties faced by tourists and residents entering and exiting the island have been greatly alleviated. improve. Due to the construction of the cross-sea bridge, the island's infrastructure has also been developing rapidly. A large number of guesthouses, hotels and resorts have been built in recent years. During the peak tourist season, you no longer have to worry about having a place to stay on the island.
