The eastern suburb of Tianjin was renamed Dongli District, the southern suburb was renamed Jinnan District, the western suburb was renamed Xiqing District, and the northern suburb was renamed Beichen District.

On June 13, 2000, the State Council approved the revocation of Wuqing County and the establishment of wuqing district.

On March 22nd, 20001year, the State Council approved the cancellation of Baodi County and the establishment of Baodi District.

Now Tianjin has jurisdiction over 15 municipal districts and 3 counties.
