The health benefits of wearing sandalwood bracelets.
Sandalwood is also effective for chest infection, sore throat and dry cough accompanied by bronchitis and lung infection. When mucous membrane is inflamed, sandalwood can relieve the disease, stimulate the immune system and prevent bacteria from reinfecting. It can also be used to treat fever, and its astringent properties are also helpful for diarrhea.
I have talked about the maintenance of rosewood hand beads on blogs, forums and TV. But many friends didn't see it, so they chose to ask me directly, plus some other questions, so I recently got phone phobia. In order to let everyone fully understand the characteristics of rosewood, the skills of playing rosewood and the knowledge of bracelet maintenance, I decided to record my knowledge and experience through this blog post. With more people and fewer problems, I will feel relaxed.
To maintain rosewood, we should start with the wooden characteristics of rosewood. The new section of rosewood (commonly known as Indian lobular rosewood, scientific name sandalwood rosewood) is orange. After a short period of oxidation (about a week), the color will change. From orange to orange and then to deep red, it is dark purple for a long time. Many people say that rosewood will turn black in the later period, but it is actually a visual problem. In the case of sufficient light, you will find it is purple. No matter how old the rosewood I saw in which museum was, it didn't turn black. Their final color is purple. Therefore, since ancient times, people have called it "red sandalwood". Then why do we feel it turned black? On the one hand, it is the visual error caused by insufficient light, on the other hand, you play a little dirty, which is the result of not knowing how to maintain. Some friends rub their hands every day, and even rub the grease secreted on their faces. You know, not only oil, but also water (sweat), mud and bacteria are rubbed on the beads. After a few weeks, the beads looked black and bright, and the surface was covered with a thick layer of dirt. Many friends mistakenly think that their beads are patina, which is a misunderstanding of patina. This kind of patina is the expression of improper maintenance of rosewood, and its existence greatly affects the beauty of rosewood. Once you don't keep rubbing oil on your face, the beads will be dull. This method will not maintain the "good appearance" of the beads.
Peripating refers to the smooth surface of beads with a layer of vitreous body, clear and fluorescent, visually penetrating, so-called "transparent" rather than a layer of old mud. Many people ask me what "patina" looks like, which has always embarrassed me. I don't know how to describe it clearly When I was in a hurry, I said, "Look at the commonly used keys on your computer keyboard." But this can only give a vague comparison, which is not accurate, because the keyboard is plastic and rosewood is wood. The former has been ground for a long time. Strictly speaking, it is not patina, but it is similar to patina. The patina of rosewood is a long-term oxidation process, which is an oxide layer and the effect of polishing are two concepts.
Red sandalwood patina has a good effect, and it can even look like a mirror. Of course, this refers to fine materials. So how can we make the beads achieve good visual effects? It means using less hands and oxidizing more (the chemical reaction between oxygen and other substance elements is that molecules are split into atoms, and atoms are rearranged and combined to produce a new substance). On the basis of oxidation of rosewood hand beads, gently wipe with clean and delicate cotton cloth. In this way, the beads can produce a clean and obvious oxide layer and form a patina. But as for oxidation, it is a relatively slow process. It takes at least one and a half years for a bead to be observed with the naked eye. If the oxidation effect is more obvious, the bead needs to be left for a longer time. This is a challenge to patience, but it turns out that it is definitely better to remove (wipe) the beads with cloth after half a year or more in a non-humid and direct sunlight environment, and the process will save you a lot of effort.
There are many red sandalwood furniture with patina effect in domestic museums, but the effect is not outstanding due to the lack of manual wiping and maintenance. Then the age is too long, which is not in line with our urgent patina psychology. But no matter how urgent it is, it can't be solved overnight, because the oxide layer is naturally formed, and you have to wait for a beautiful patina effect, unless you rely on rubber grinding (dipping beads and polishing and waxing) or waxing more, and then chemical oxidation to achieve it. As far as I know, a pair of rosewood paperweights made ten years ago have the shortest time and mirror-wrapped characteristics, which means that they have been playing for more than a year and have not moved before. This "mirror" effect is achieved through long-term oxidation. As for the beads, I haven't seen any string with the above wrapping effect, because everyone is too eager to serve. At present, there are several strings of sandalwood silver for display, but it has only been oxidized for half a year. Although some effects have been achieved, the obvious patina has not been achieved.
To sum up, as for "when will the red sandalwood hand beads be wrapped?" Because I haven't played the beading that satisfies me, but the paperweights I have seen are still satisfactory, so I always answer "ten years" when I meet people who have to have a concept of time. However, it doesn't mean that people can pack pulp after playing for ten years. Of course, it is not ruled out that you can make patina after playing for one year, which is related to material, environment and patience.
Let's talk about oxidation first, and then talk about "disk". First of all, be sure to use a clean cloth. Generally speaking, the material of cloth is fine and soft cotton cloth. Cotton cloth should not be contaminated with oil or alcohol, washing liquid and other chemicals. Otherwise, the color of the beads looks unnatural. Then why use exquisite cloth? One is that coarse cloth will destroy the oxide layer on the surface of beads, which is not conducive to the accumulation and solidification of oxidized substances. Secondly, this kind of wood should have brown eyes, which is a necessary channel for wood growth and water supply, just like our blood vessels. However, rosewood is famous for its delicate wood. Especially after the distinction between old and new rosewood, everyone knows that the old rosewood is more delicate, and its characteristic is "small brown eyes", so the small brown eye rosewood beads are gradually favored by everyone. In fact, brown eyes are the characteristics of normal growth of rosewood, but they are slightly different due to the length of growth years and the different growth environment. The reason why old rosewood has small brown eyes is because it is a wild forest with high altitude and poor growth conditions, which leads to slow growth. But the old rosewood must have small brown eyes, and the new rosewood must have big brown eyes? That's not necessarily true. Because there are many ways to "improve" the big brown eye problem of new rosewood, so as to meet the enthusiastic pursuit of small brown eyes by the majority of wood friends. As mentioned above, "waxing" and "grinding glue" can effectively cover up the problem of big brown eyes. In fact, there is a way to hide brown eyes better. Put the rosewood beads into the alloy millstone, add water and press hard, and the ground wood pulp will be fully filled into the brown eyes, so that the surface of the beads looks smooth and delicate, just like patina. But if you play for a long time, especially if the cloth is rough or too hard, the substance filled in the brown eye will slip, and the consequences can be imagined. Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to maintain the beads as much as possible, and never use rough cloth such as bath towels to dish the beads. If you really buy tampered beads and then take off the coarse cloth, there will be a big gap in your heart. Originally, the biggest advantage of playing with beads was to adjust the mentality and resolve the boredom. However, more and more big brown eyes have caused unnecessary trouble to myself, so I suggest not to pursue small brown eyes and leave a foreshadowing for my psychological gap. Even if you buy small brown eyes, you should be mentally prepared. There can only be more and more brown eyes, not less and less, because in the process of polishing beads, the polished wood powder will naturally fill the brown eyes, and the beads will not be as bright as you just saw without tampering. If you think too much about everything, the result will naturally be bad.
In addition, the intensity of playing rosewood bracelets should be moderate. I remember a friend used to play with rosewood beads with a bath towel. Finally, all the ropes on the beads were broken and his hands were worn out. The final appearance of the beads can be imagined. The correct method should be to gently knead the beads one by one after they are oxidized for a period of time, so that after a period of time, you will find that the beads have changed and the surface is smoother and more transparent.
Try not to touch it with sweaty hands when playing. I have a client who not only wears gloves, but also takes cloth and beads on this basis. Hey, there is oil! Alas, you washed your hands! .................................................................................................................................................................................. later, I wouldn't let him touch anything in my shop. When I tried to reach out, I shouted, "oily and sweaty!" " "It's difficult to cure this problem of him. You said it was really tiring to play with beads like this. I really don't recommend you to play like this. It's so tangled. Of course, he is really good at playing with beads. It is said that he was walking on the Shili River, and many people followed him and asked him how to set it up. After all, he is more attentive than the average person. Many friends rub with their own hands and use the oil pan on their faces. The consequences can be imagined. As mentioned earlier, the color of beads will be affected, so try to avoid it.
Then, answer the question that many friends will ask: "How long do I play games directly or wear them?"
Actually, it's up to you. If you want to make the beads more beautiful when you wear them, wear them less, oxidize them more, and be gentle on the basis of the oxidation effect. Most people who buy rosewood bracelets are for wearing, so if you don't have a high pursuit of gloss and appearance, just wear them directly. Although there will be sweat stains on your wrist in summer, you should always wipe it with a cloth to minimize the influence of sweat stains on rosewood and keep it clean and shiny without losing its charm. After all, it is the king of wood, not so delicate. As for whether you can take the wheel directly, it depends on whether you like transparent and shiny beads or black mud balls. However, the latter will make you keep a lower profile. As soon as the "knowledgeable" friends met, they said, "Hey, nice beads, ebony!"
The above mainly focuses on the patina and brown eyes of rosewood, and then focuses on the cracking of rosewood.
If the red sandalwood hand beads are exposed to sweat for a long time and are not often wiped clean with cotton cloth, the red sandalwood hand beads will absorb a lot of water through the guide holes, and will easily crack with the change of humidity and temperature. When washing your hands, you'd better take it off and put it in your pocket, and then take it out to wear it when your hands are dry. Don't put it on the sink, that's how many people lose their hands.
Wood is difficult to control, and problems such as cracking, deformation and decay are common. It is precisely because of the appeal shortcomings of wood that few wooden furniture can be handed down in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Sandalwood is delicate in texture, natural and anticorrosive, and not easy to crack and deform. But this is relative to most other woods. In fact, the problem of rosewood cracking has been a very tangled matter for craftsmen since the Ming Dynasty, and it is still the case today. Because rosewood has a dense wood structure and is not easy to lose water, it is difficult to obtain the ideal stability effect of its wood properties through drying. If you choose to air dry naturally until it has no wood properties at all, then you can't wait for the newly cut rosewood to be placed in the ideal state of normal human life. Red sandalwood contains a certain amount of water, and then it is normal for small cracks to appear in an environment with uneven temperature and humidity, which is difficult to control artificially. So it's very common that the rosewood you bought has some small cracks. Take it easy. After standing for a period of time, some small cracks will slowly recover themselves with the change of humidity. In fact, this is just a commonality of wood, because it is wood, and wood has its own personality, so don't worry about cracking. It is meaningless for someone to argue with the merchant theory because the beads are cracked. Even if the merchant replaces you with one without cracks, there will still be cracks if the temperature and humidity change.
Finally, three main factors of wood cracking are summarized for your reference and try to avoid cracking.
1. Wood is relatively new. If rosewood is a fast-growing forest, then the wood density is low because it grows fast and cracks easily due to the change of temperature and humidity.
There is a great difference between temperature and humidity. For example, it is easy to crack when it is mailed from the rainy south of the Yangtze River to the desert arid area, because the environment in which the wood is located is different and the temperature and humidity change greatly. (At the beginning of home heating every year, it is also the peak period of rosewood cracking. )
3. If the bracelet worn on the wrist often touches water, such as washing hands, wood is also extremely fragile.
These are my thoughts on bead maintenance based on my own experience, hoping to give you some help. If you have any questions, please continue to ask questions, and I will continue to sort out and update. -Hu
