People's Republic of China (PRC) Marine Police Law

Article 1 This Law is formulated in order to standardize and guarantee the performance of duties by the marine police, safeguard national sovereignty, security and maritime rights and interests, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens, legal persons and other organizations. Article 2 The maritime police force of the People's Armed Police Force, that is, the marine police agency, shall uniformly perform the duties of key law enforcement in maritime rights protection. Marine police agencies include China Marine Police and its branches and bureaus directly under it, provincial marine police, municipal marine police and marine police workstations. Article 3 This Law shall apply to the maritime rights protection and law enforcement activities of maritime public security organs in the waters under the jurisdiction of People's Republic of China (PRC) (hereinafter referred to as the waters under the jurisdiction of China) and over them. Article 5 The basic tasks of law enforcement for maritime rights protection are to implement maritime security, maintain public order at sea, crack down on smuggling and smuggling at sea, supervise and inspect activities such as the development and utilization of marine resources, the protection of marine ecological environment and the production and operation of marine fisheries within the scope of duties, and prevent, stop and punish illegal and criminal activities at sea.
