Random talk on architectural design experience

Every year before the graduation season in September and the job-hopping season at the beginning of the year, all architectural design companies are approving? Change blood? . During this time, I will always be asked the same question by friends or schoolmates around me inexplicably:? Tell me what the compound is like. Does it suit me? What about private design companies? What about foreign companies and small companies?

I feel too tired to repeat the same content every time, so I decided to write a text directly, detailing the differences between different types of architectural design companies. If someone asks again in the future, just forward it to him directly, which not only saves trouble, but also creates an illusion of self-image expansion at the moment of forwarding ~ I have to admit that sometimes hallucinations can provide powerful motivation.

The reason why I am always asked the above questions is related to my professional experience. Let me say it briefly.

After graduating from Tongji Architecture Department with a master's degree, he first entered a well-known large private enterprise in the industry. Then he jumped to the state-owned enterprise compound under a certain group, during which he changed departments in the hospital once. Last year, I jumped from the compound to a small private design company (firm).

I spent the longest time in the state-owned enterprise compound, during which I mainly worked in LDI, that is, deepening cooperation of domestic projects of foreign design companies. Cooperate with international first-line design companies such as HOK and John Portman for several years. Roughly speaking, it has been in business for 10 years, which is exactly 10 years when the domestic construction industry gradually went from peak to trough. This experience will also be discussed below.

What are architecture graduates doing?

Major universities in China have begun to reduce the enrollment of architecture majors, which means that it will take 3-4 years for the first batch of graduates to lose weight to enter the market. Before that, what will super graduates do after leaving school?

Have you all entered the design institute and started your hard painting career?

Definitely not. The actual situation can be roughly divided into three categories: mainstream, sub-mainstream and non-mainstream.

The mainstream is naturally going to enter the vast number of design institutes, companies and firms, and gradually upgrade and accumulate experience from the bottom drawings gou. In those years when I was in school, many people went to the state-run compound, and then the number of people who came to various private design institutes increased year by year. From the side, we can see the development and growth of private enterprises and the weakening of the attraction of the compound. Despite this trend, it cannot be said that recombination will decline, because its advantages are unique and will be discussed in detail later.

The sub-mainstream will go to various real estate companies and development companies to become the architects of Party A with excellent professional knowledge, and then start to (nue) dock (dai) the mainstream drawings of various design institutes. From the trend, there are more and more people who switch to Party A after graduation and after work.

Non-mainstream destinations are varied. It is common to go abroad for further study and stay in school as teachers. Very few will change careers completely, and some will start their own businesses and become freelancers.

The number of choices in the above three categories is pyramid-shaped. The first category has the largest number of people at the bottom, because its professional skills have become the first choice for most people. The second category needs skills even more than professional knowledge, which is considered as a semi-career change, so fewer people will choose. The number of non-mainstream people in the third category is too small to have statistical reference significance.
