Building a car is a business, and the brand, channel and cost determine the profit level. Mercedes-Benz and Toyota are among the best. Building a car is a technology. Only by mastering the core technology can you drink the most abundant bowl of soup. Not only traditional players have a deep understanding, but even the upstart Tesla has benefited a lot.

How do China car companies that started late break through? BYD gave us the answer. For example, a few days ago, a "Cloud Web" technology conference that caused a sensation in the industry and even attracted global attention was a model.

"Yunnian", a typical naming method of China traditional culture, is a "light and fluent luxury car" in vernacular Chinese. To put it more clearly, it is actually a core chassis technology about body control. According to Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, Yun Qi rewrote the history that body control technology depended on foreign countries, which not only achieved the breakthrough of China automobile industry from 0 to 1, but also surpassed the foreign technical level in one fell swoop and completed the upgrade from 1 to 2.

So, is Yun Qi really as good as Wang Chuanfu said? Next, let's dig deeper.

First of all, what are the dry goods in Yun Qi?

As mentioned earlier, Yun Qi is a technology about chassis control, which aims to make the running car more stable and safe. It is worth noting that BYD has come up with a variety of solutions at one time. At this conference, we have seen that three mature products, Yun Qi -C, Yun Qi -A and Yun Qi -P, were officially unveiled through several production cars.

Yunnian -C, whose Chinese full name is "Intelligent Damping Body Control System", adjusts the damping by controlling the electromagnetic valve of the shock absorber, so as to realize stepless adaptive adjustment of the damping and make the chassis soft and hard.

When the vehicle passes through the bumpy road surface, the comfort control strategy of high frequency and small damping is adopted to soften the chassis, effectively buffer the strong input of the road surface and quickly restrain the vertical movement of the car body. It is reported that Yun Qi -C can make the vehicle's vibration isolation rate reach 96% when it passes through the continuously vibrating road at a speed of 60km/h, which greatly improves the comfort compared with the traditional suspension. When the vehicle turns, accelerates or brakes quickly, the low-frequency and large-damping maneuverability control strategy is adopted to harden the chassis, provide greater support, restrain the body roll and pitch, and ensure the handling stability of the vehicle. It is reported that Yun Qi -C can reduce the rolling angle speed of the vehicle by 39.7% and greatly improve the handling performance under the two-lane condition of speed100 km/h.

Yunnian -A, whose Chinese full name is "intelligent air control system", essentially controls the air spring intake and exhaust, stiffness conversion valve, shock absorber solenoid valve and so on. To adjust the height, stiffness and damping, so as to realize the dynamic adjustment of body control, so that the whole vehicle has the ultimate comfort, stability, support and passability.

In the aspect of suspension height adjustment, the suspension adjustment stroke of Yunnian -A can reach 150mm, and the system provides more than ten functional modes.

In the aspect of suspension stiffness adjustment, when the vehicle accelerates and brakes, Yun Qi -A can improve the anti-pitching ability of the vehicle by more than 25%. When the vehicle turns at high speed, Yun Qi -A can reduce the roll angular velocity of the car body by 23%, which greatly reduces the driving discomfort.

As for the damping adjustment of shock absorber, Yun Qi -A contains all the functions of Yun Qi -C, and the specific strategies and effects are exactly the same.

Yunnian -P, whose full name is "Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System" in Chinese, essentially controls the oil intake of shock absorber, damping regulating valve and stiffness regulating valve to realize the dynamic adjustment of body control, which belongs to off-road special purpose.

In addition to the continuous fine output damping control under different working conditions, the suspension stiffness of Yun Qi -P has three levels of adjustment, and its highest level can cope with emergencies such as vehicles falling off slopes during high-intensity off-road, reducing the impact load by 50% and ensuring the safety of the system and the whole vehicle.

Moreover, its suspension adjustment stroke can reach 200mm (providing multi-stage suspension height adjustment), which can not only realize four-wheel synchronous lifting ability, but also realize single-wheel independent lifting. The lifting force of the system is up to 5 tons, which meets the requirements of high-strength off-road continuous lifting.

It is worth noting that Yun Qi -P integrates three core technologies: mechanical, hydraulic and electronic control. It not only can realize all the functions of Yun Qi -C and Yun Qi -A, but also has faster response and more powerful functions. It has innovative functions such as four-wheel linkage (the maximum wheel difference of the vehicle is 620mm) and camping leveling (keeping the vehicle level).

Obviously, the three systems that Yun Qi has mass-produced are all higher than each other.

Secondly, do other countries have these technologies?

According to the official statement, Yun Qi is an intelligent body control system developed by BYD for five years and costing billions of yuan, and it is also the first exclusive intelligent body control system for new energy in the industry. But realistically speaking, it is not the first time to put aside the word "exclusive new energy" and look at the whole automobile industry.

Take Yun Qi -C as an example. According to BYD's description, people familiar with automobile technology will naturally think of CDC suspension technology (continuous damping control). After all, the shock absorber with electromagnetic valve controlling damping, which is often referred to as "electromagnetic vibration reduction", can be seen on more and more vehicles with 200,000-300,000 yuan. Including BYD itself, the hardware of C has been installed in some configuration versions of BYD's Han, Tang and Tengshi D9 models, and will be upgraded to a complete C system through OTA.

However, it is worth mentioning that the common electromagnetic vibration reduction can only achieve 100 signal input per second, while BYD Yun Qi -C has improved by an order of magnitude and can receive thousands of signal inputs per second.

Let's talk about Xiao Yun -A first. With the change of spring length and internal air pressure through inflation and deflation, coupled with the effect of electromagnetic vibration reduction, the vehicle can not only realize the continuous adjustment of damping, but also adjust the suspension stroke and body height, which has a more obvious optimization effect on handling and comfort.

The high cost of air suspension determines that it is mostly exclusive to luxury cars. The entry price of Land Rover Defender with air suspension as standard is more than 700,000 yuan, while the ideal L9 and Tucki G9 with 400,000 yuan are already "civilian models" equipped with this technology. As for BYD Tengshi N7, which is the first to carry Yunnian -A, there is a voice on the Internet that the pre-sale price will be lowered to 300,000-400,000 yuan. If the news is true at that time, it will be another embodiment of equal rights in science and technology.

Although they are all air suspensions, BYD Yun Qi -A has a unique feature, that is, Yun Qi -A realizes the active adjustment of the seat wing through the design of * * * air duct. That is to say, when the system senses the change of body posture, or turns on the turn signal during driving, it will quickly expand (or tighten) the seat wing at the corresponding position, so that the "wrapping feeling" of the waist can also be adjusted adaptively.

Next is Yun Qi -P, which is really high-end goods. The author immediately thought of the "magic carpet" of flagship models such as Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series, especially Mercedes-Benz, because it is also an active suspension system and adopts hydraulic technology, just like BYD.

As BYD's first car with Xiao Yun -P, I hope U8 has brought surprises to friends in its previous appearance, not only because it is "floating on the water", but also because it is worth millions in legend, just standing on the same level as Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series.

However, Mercedes-Benz's magic carpet is used in flagship commercial vehicles, aiming to improve the ultimate comfort, while BYD Yun Qi -P is dedicated to off-road and aims to create a new peak of off-road. The use scenarios of the two are different, and the technical calibration is bound to be very different. There is no need to forcibly divide the grades.

Let's talk about it finally.

No matter Xiao Yun -C, Xiao Yun -A or Xiao Yun -P, it is not the focus of BYD's exhibition at this conference, because after a series of fancy tricks such as three-wheel drive, vehicle dancing and taking off in place, even netizens in overseas countries are shocked-although this car is equipped with Xiao Yun.

For BYD's operation, there are voices questioning its "full-stack self-research", thinking that many technologies can find their source, and even some friends came up with it first. But what I want to say is that the whole vehicle manufacturing is a big project of system integration, not to mention the standard parts such as screws and nuts, that is, the suspension discussed today, and no car company will produce parts such as shock absorbers, springs or connecting rods by itself, which are related to the technical standards and process requirements of suppliers, so that the parts companies can produce them in detail according to the drawings.

What's more, in today's era when new energy and intelligence have become the mainstream, software-defined vehicles have become a new competitive highland, and the body control technology can not be perfectly matched by simple takenism, which needs to be put forward by automobile manufacturers at the beginning of vehicle research and development, and will be continuously verified and revised in the subsequent research and development stage. Just like BYD Yun Qi, the whole system consists of Yun Qi intelligent exploration architecture (perception), Yun Qi intelligent computing center (decision-making), Yun Qi intelligent control technology (control) and key components (execution), giving full play to the advantages of electrification and intelligence of new energy vehicles, and building a complete system architecture of perception, decision-making and execution.

Among them, from the aspects of system design, key component design, software and strategy algorithm development, matching verification and so on. BYD is doing it itself, and a lot of self-research is true-five years, billions of investment is not just talk.

Correspondingly, it is the rapid rise of BYD in recent years, and the technology independently developed has given returns again and again, as evidenced by blade batteries, CTB and Easy Sifang.
