How is the meteor shower formed?

Meteor shower is composed of meteor groups and meteor belts.

Meteor swarms are made up of small particles released by comet fragments. These small particles fly in the orbit of the solar system and will burn in the earth's atmosphere, thus forming a meteor shower. Meteor belts are made up of the remains of some comets, which appear at the same time every year to form a meteor shower.

Meteor shower is composed of asteroid fragments outside the solar system. During the revolution, these asteroid fragments will be attracted by the sun, the moon and other planets and thrown to the earth, thus forming a meteor shower. Asteroid debris in meteor showers are mostly stony particles, with an average diameter ranging from a few millimeters to dozens of millimeters, and some even reach hundreds of millimeters. These asteroid fragments will move at high speed in the atmosphere, and heat and light will be generated due to air friction, forming a beautiful scene of meteor shower.

Meteor origin

The disintegration of comets and the eruption of water vapor will drag debris, so FredWhipple proposed in 195 1 that Whipple developed the dirty snowball theory of comets: comets around the sun are small celestial bodies with rocks embedded in ice, which may be water, methane, ammonia or other volatiles alone or in combination; Rocks can be as big as dust or as different as pebbles. Dust-sized solids are the most common in order of magnitude, and they are more common than ordinary particles the size of sand and pebbles.

When ice sublimates because of its warmth, its evaporation will bring out solids such as dust, sand and pebbles. Whenever a comet approaches the sun in its orbit, some ice will be evaporated and some meteoroids will be dumped. These meteoroids spread outward into a stream of meteoroids, that is, dust tails, which are scattered around the entire comet orbit. It is questioned that our short-period comet meteor shower is not an active comet with normal water vapor evaporation, but a large number of fragments of a rare dormant comet.
