How would you rate Dororo?

The original comic series of "Dororo" was positioned as a juvenile adventure genre, and I personally think that the ghost genre is more suitable. It is written by the famous Japanese cartoonist Osamu Tezuka. It has been adapted into animation, stage plays, movies and other forms. Recently, it has been adapted into animation again and broadcasted. Although this work is a half-finished work, its reputation is not small.

This is a story that took place in Japan's turbulent era. In that era, martial arts were respected and wars continued everywhere. After a defeat in the war, the father of the male protagonist Hyakkimaru, Daigo Kagemitsu, took the body of his unborn child. 48 parts of his body were sacrificed to the devil in exchange for the power to dominate the world. And treat the newborn child as a monster and abandon it cruelly. The abandoned Hyakkimaru was rescued by a witch doctor, who reshaped his body and raised him.

When he grew up, Hyakkimaru embarked on the road of slaying demons after his adoptive father passed away. Every time he killed a demon, he would take back a part of his body. On the way, he met a Dororo, a girl who wants to become the world's greatest thief, works together to slay demons while searching for her origins.

Hyakkimaru's life began with tragedy. When he had no decision-making power, he was sacrificed to the devil by his biological father, and was helplessly abandoned by his biological mother. He had to endure bone-breaking pain every time his organs were replaced. He helped others kill monsters, and was even thrown into stone by the villagers who mistakenly thought he was a ghost. But he always had a kind heart. Even when faced with his brother and father who wanted to kill him, he never gave up his conscience. Although some people are abandoned by their loved ones, they can never give up their family ties.

Dororo’s life was also tragic. He saw his father being killed by Daigo Kagemitsu and his mother freezing to death in the snow. From then on, he lived a wandering life and followed his mother’s last instructions. She forgot her name and gender and lived as a boy. Dororo actually means ghost in Japanese. She had no name and got her own name after Hyakkimaru said Dororo. Hyakkimaru once said self-deprecatingly, "Actually, I should be called Dororo." Dororo said, "How can a thief return what he has got? I am the great thief in the world, Dororo-sama, and I will never return this name." for you". This paragraph moved me deeply. Some people encounter many difficulties in life, but they never give up and are still kind. In addition, this paragraph also explains the question that many people have about why the title of "Dororo" is not the name of the male protagonist. Although this name is the name of the heroine, it also describes Hyakkimaru.

At the end of the movie, Hyakkimaru and Dororo stood on the beach. Hyakkimaru looked at the sea and said, It’s so beautiful! Yes, no matter what hardships you go through, as long as you have courage and persevere, justice and victory will eventually come. I think this is what Tezuka wants to tell us.
