When did the staple appear?

1869, Thomas Briggs of Boston, Massachusetts invented a machine that could do the job. This machine first breaks the wire and bends it into a U-shape. Then, the binding machine puts the U-shaped line on the page by hand, and finally bends the U-shaped line with this machine to fix the book.

The original stapler was quite complicated because it had many operating steps. Therefore, in 1894, Briggs improved the original stapler. In this process, firstly, the iron wire is broken and bent to make a series of U-shaped staples. (The early U-shaped staples were wrapped in paper, and then put into the stapler separately when used. It was not until the popularity of staplers in the 1920s that U-shaped nails were glued into long strips and put on the market. These nails can be put into a much simpler machine after improvement, and the machine can directly embed these nails into the paper, thus eliminating a manual procedure. This machine is the prototype of stapler in today's office and home.
