Iran opens "Eagle -44" secret tunnel

On February 7, 2023, to celebrate the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Iran announced a secret tunnel named "Oghab-44".

This tunnel is built in the mountainous area and can accommodate all kinds of fighters and drones. The ground crew can repair, refuel and replenish ammunition for the aircraft in the tunnel, and the aircraft can directly enter the runway through the tunnel.

At the same time, the F-4E "Ghost II" multi-role fighter of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Iranian Air Force was displayed in the tunnel.

Among them, the F-4E is equipped with anti-ship missiles and precision guided bombs.

Precision guided bombs are equipped with folding wings above them, which can be deployed to increase the range after dropping. There is a guidance control part at the tail, which can effectively improve the hit accuracy.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Pahlavi dynasty of Iran imported 225 F-4D and F-4E fighters and RF-4E reconnaissance planes from the United States.

About 60 of these "Ghosts II" have the ability to fly because of the 1990 s and American sanctions.

This is not because the Iranian Air Force is satisfied with the performance of these fighters, but because of the international situation, these old-fashioned aircraft have to continue to serve.

In the process of building these tunnels, Iran has received technical assistance from the DPRK, and the deepest part of the tunnel is 6 1 m.
