Classification of solar simulator

Solar simulators can be classified according to different standards. According to the size of the effective irradiation surface of the solar simulator, it can be generally divided into single-chip solar cell tester and solar cell module tester.

Single-chip solar cell tester is generally used for power testing and sequencing of battery manufacturers and solar cell modules before production. Its test area is small, and it can test conventional 125 and 156 solar cells.

Solar module tester is generally used to test the power of solar modules before leaving the factory, and the test area is generally large. According to the pulse characteristics of light sources, solar simulators can be divided into steady-state solar simulators, single-pulse solar simulators and multi-pulse solar simulators, and their advantages and disadvantages are shown in the figure.

With the development of light source technology, the choice of light source for solar simulator is also changing. Metal halogen lamp, carbon arc lamp, halogen lamp, tungsten lamp, xenon lamp, LED and other light sources can all be used as the light source of the solar simulator, and they have different advantages and disadvantages.
