What is the story of "The dog bit Lu Dongbin"? Who wrongly blamed whom?

There are many versions of the story about "dog biting Lu Dongbin". The one that is widely circulated now is that "dog biting" is just a person's name, "Gou Yao". Lu Dongbin was a candidate in the Tang Dynasty, and Gou Yao was one of his fellow countrymen. Because his family was in poverty, Lu Dongbin took him home to study and live together.

The relationship between the two is as good as that of brothers. One day a good friend came to visit Lu Dongbin at home. He saw that Gou Yao was a talented person and a scholar, so he liked him very much and wanted to take him to his house. His sister married him. After Lu Dongbin heard about this, he was afraid that the love between his children would delay Gou Yao's studies, so he refused.

Gou Yao thought that Lu Dongbin was worried that it would cost a lot of money to get married so he rejected his friend. He was a little sad but did not dare to say it. After all, he lived and ate at someone else’s house and he was really embarrassed to ask others to do it for him. Get yourself a wife. Lu Dongbin knew what Gou Yao was thinking, and said to Gou Yao: I know you want to get a wife, but before getting married, I have to live with your wife for three days.

Gou Yao had no choice but to agree. On their wedding night, Lu Dongbin read this book until dawn, and then left. It was the same for the next two days. On the fourth day, Gou Yao saw his bride, but the bride asked him why he didn't sleep with him in the past few days, but kept studying and didn't see anyone during the day.

Gou Yao understood Lu Dongbin's intentions, so he studied harder and finally obtained merit and left Lu Dongbin. There was a fire accident in Lu Dongbin's house, and everything was burned down. Lu Dongbin begged along the street and went to the capital to seek help from Gou Yao. Gou Yao saw that Lu Dongbin had been comforting him to stay and said he would help. But time passed day by day, and there was still no help from Gou Yao.

Lu Dongbin left Gou Yao frustrated. When he returned home, he found that the building had been rebuilt at home. The wife was crying in front of a coffin. When she opened the coffin, she found that it was full of gold and silver treasures. There was also a note that said: "You let my wife guard the empty house, and I will make your wife cry heartbroken."

It turns out that Gou Yao had already secretly arranged it. Therefore, later generations have this saying, "A dog bites (Gou Yao) Lu Dongbin, but it does not know a good heart."
