The third Buddhist story in Mr. Nan's book: Li Ao asked Master Yaoshan.

Similar to the previous case-solving, Li Ao, a Confucian in the Tang Dynasty, was a disciple of Han Yu and wrote a book about renaturation, which is famous for his study of mind and nature. Li Ao was originally opposed to Buddhism with his teacher, and later he was sent to Hunan as the prefect, that is, the governor of Hunan. He heard that a Zen founder named Yao Shan Zen Master was very famous, so he went to see him. The satrap of the Tang Dynasty was much more powerful than the current governor, and he had the power of life and death, so he was a vassal. He went to the temple on the mountain. The old monk sat in the sun reciting Buddhist scriptures, and the satrap stood behind him. The old monk ignored him and never looked back. Li Ao's personality is very impatient. He stood for a long time and didn't look back. He was angry and left. He said a word-"It's better to meet each other than to be famous", which means that we have heard your name for a long time and only saw it today, but that's all.

At this moment, the old monk turned to talk to him. How about satrap! Why is "Zhong Er light-eyed"? The old monk hit him back. Why do you value your ears so much and despise your eyes? Hearing this, the Li Ao was surprised. He quickly turned around and asked for advice. After talking a lot, I asked him for help. Jackson Yaoshan didn't speak. He pointed up and down with his hand and it was over. Li Ao didn't understand, so he had to ask: Master! I don't understand this. Can you tell me if you understand it? Zen master Yaoshan said, "The cloud is in the sky, and the water is in the bottle." A sentence that looks very literary, this is the realm of kung fu.

Li Ao understood the words spoken by Jackson Yaoshan. At that time, he wrote to the enlightened son:

I was trained like a crane forest, and I learned two classics from Panasonic.

Let me ask, there is nothing to say. The clouds are in the sky and the water is in the bottle.

From this poem, we know that Zen master Yaoshan is very tall and thin, and he is thoroughly remoulded. "Thousand Matsushita Two Beliefs Classics", there are classics under the pine tree. What a wonderful picture! "There's nothing to say if I ask," said Jackson Yaoshan, pointing up and down. Because Li Ao didn't understand, Master had to guide him in literature. "The clouds are in the sky and the water is in the bottle." Let's not be fooled by him! Did Master Yaoshan really say that? Not exactly, "clouds are in the sky, water is in the bottle", almost, not like that.

Li Ao thought he was enlightened, so he wrote this poem to Master, and then asked Yao Shan, Master, if he was enlightened, what else would he have in the future? Is there any time later? Then Master Yaoshan told Li Ao two words about how to practice after going down the mountain: "Stand on the top of a high mountain and walk on the deep seabed." Later Taoists believed that the seabed was what the Zen master called the seabed. This is a big question mark. Zen won't explain it to you, but you have to participate. The so-called self-incrimination and voluntariness are all enlightened, otherwise you won't have the power. Generally speaking, "Climb to the top of the mountain and walk under the deep sea" is what the Confucian doctrine of the mean says: "extremely bright and moderate". It looks high, but I work hard, starting from being a man and starting from the basics of discipline, determination and wisdom. These two sentences are closely related to the efforts made by Taoism, Buddhism, tantra and Xianxue later. You can study them yourself. Quoting Wang Yangming's poem "Tao is irrelevant but relevant", do you think it is irrelevant? Correlation; When you say relevant, it's not necessarily relevant. Master Yaoshan also told Li Ao: "I don't want to disclose the boudoir." In other words, the lust of men and women will never succeed. It is equal to the Shurangama Sutra that it is as impossible to get the truth as steaming sand into rice.

Almost two hundred years apart, after Zhang Shangying realized the Tao in the Song Dynasty, he read this passage in Zen books, thinking that Li Ao had no enlightenment, so he wrote a poem:

Clouds in the sky, water in the bottle, eyes pointing into the pit.

Creek flowers can't stand the hardships of wind and frost and go deep into the seabed.

We talked for a long time just to quote this sentence, so we spent a lot of time. "Follow your eyes", and your eyes follow your fingers "into the pit", into the pit and into hell. Zhang Shangying's poems are ingenious and criticize Li Ao without foundation. The cloud is in the blue sky and the water is in the bottle. Most people regard this realm as equal to feeling the pulse. Some people meditate and learn Buddha to reach this state, and their thoughts are empty. "There is not a cloud in the blue sky of Wan Li" wants to settle permanently, which is self-righteous. Zhang Shangying thought it was really a joke, and it was "eyes falling into a deep pit with fingers".

When a man dies, his eyes fall to the ground, because God is scattered. Monarchy needs God to condense gas. If God can't condense, the qi will dissipate, so "eyes fall into the pit with fingers" means that God can't condense and can't stop it. If you can't hold your breath, you can't get out of Hongdao if you don't practice successfully. Therefore, I often say that it is easier to practice than to become a Taoist, and it is easier to walk in the street when you become a Taoist, and it is easier to preach when you walk in the street. Therefore, Zhang Shangying said, "Flowers bloom and fall, but they can't stand the hardships of wind and frost". You can't stand that evil influence. Just like autumn and winter, life will shrink. Who are you to say "go to the bottom of the sea"!

-nan huaijin, I said "participation contract" lecture 16.

Little doubt and little understanding, big doubt and big understanding, no doubt. The master who thinks he has realized it can only be seen by those who have experienced it. Not only did I leave Wu Wanli, but I could only do this:

That's very profound, undersea travel.

Secular desires gradually become stable.

There is no shortcut to the test.

Nothing in life, nothing in life.
