How to feed puppies

The first point of feeding puppies

As soon as a puppy is born, it will be suckled immediately. The owner should let the newborn puppy lie next to the bitch so as to suck the milk. If multiple puppies are born at one birth, the last puppy (usually thin and weak) should be placed on the last two pairs of nipples to suck milk. After several repetitions, each puppy will have a fixed nipple.

Feed the puppy. The second point.

The owner should be careful when feeding and replenishing the puppies. The milk of a bitch within 3 ~ 5 days after delivery is called colostrum, which is very different from ordinary milk in composition. It contains high protein, fat and rich vitamins, which has a laxative effect and can promote meconium discharge. High initial lactic acid is beneficial to digestion. Almost all nutrients in colostrum can be absorbed and utilized by puppies, which is very beneficial to increase physical strength and maintain body temperature. Antibodies have not yet been produced in newborn puppies. Generally speaking, puppies can get immune protection from colostrum, and then the concentration of maternal antibody gradually decreases, and it is basically gone by 8 weeks old. Therefore, it is necessary to feed colostrum to dogs as soon as possible.

The third point of feeding puppies

After the puppy is a little older, the breast milk may be insufficient, so it needs to be supplemented appropriately. Don't feed the puppy milk at this time, because the puppy's gastrointestinal function is very poor, and drinking milk is very easy to cause diarrhea. If you want to feed your puppy, you'd better use special dog milk powder, boil it for disinfection, and then feed it with a bottle. The temperature is about 27-30 degrees. Generally, there is no need to deliberately limit the amount of milk supplement until it is full.
