The eyes are the windows of the soul, why?

According to my understanding, there are probably two meanings:

1, the eye is a very important organ for us to understand the outside world, through which we can intuitively perceive the world, and it is a window for us to see the world.

In many cases, people's inner emotions can be expressed through their eyes, such as happiness, doubt and sadness. Others can feel these psychological states through their eyes, so some people say that the eyes are the windows to the soul.
