What is the historical connection between Shandong and Northeast China? What are the similarities and differences between cultures?

The legend of King Zhulong is one of the four famous legends in Feixian County. His story should be a branch of the legend of "Bald Tail Old Li" widely circulated in Shandong. Local people say that King Zhu Long was born in a family named Zhu in Xijiang Village, Fei County, and his name was Zhu Fu.

When Zhu Fu was young, he often went to Longwangtang Mountain with the villagers to collect firewood.

Everyone else was busy, but he was the only one sleeping there. In the evening, everyone picked up a load of firewood and went home. He just got up and turned into a dragon. He grabbed a big pick with three claws and two claws. Then he rolled around and turned into a human to catch up with his accomplices when they reached Mashan. The friends were very surprised, so they secretly stayed to watch, and found out that Zhu Fu was actually a dragon.

A few years later, Zhu Fu married a daughter-in-law and his parents were gone. One day, his sister-in-law came to play at home. She heard someone said that he could transform into a dragon, and insisted that he transform into one. Zhu Fu first changed into a little lizard, and his sister-in-law laughed at him: "You are not a dragon, don't be a shabby person." Zhu Fu then turned into a big dragon, with a body more than ten feet long, two eyes like big bells, and a body covered with scales. It opened its bloody mouth and shook its head and tail in front of his sister-in-law and daughter-in-law. Scared his wife to death. Zhu Fu himself was so angry that his wife's death energy was so strong that she could no longer become a human being and became the Zhulong King.

The Zhulong King regretted and was afraid, so he ran along the river to Tuolong Mountain. The river he walked on was later called Zhulong River.

Zhu Longwang's sister-in-law put on her sister's clothes and chased him while shouting: "Brother-in-law, please come back, my sister is alive?", trying to lure him back. When she shouted, King Zhulong would turn around, and when he turned around, the river would turn into a bay. The sister-in-law shouted 72 times, and the Zhulong King turned back 72 times, and the Zhulong River had 72 turning bays. Seeing that Zhu Longwang could not be lured back, the sister-in-law said to his back: "Brother-in-law, you are so difficult to lure!" Zhulong King said: "I am still going to the south, but I will not go back to the north." Later, the place where they talked was called Nanyin and Beiyin, and it still exists today.

When King Zhu Long came to Longwangtang Mountain, there was a severe drought. The water in the river was almost dry. He lay dying in the water and attracted many flies on his body. The people used fans to fan him. They poured water on him and began to build a temple for him east of Huiquan.

It didn’t rain during the construction of the temple. After the temple was built, it rained heavily and the dragon disappeared. From then on, the Dragon King Hall was established. One year there was a severe drought in Xijiang. Seeing that the crops were about to dry up, the villagers went to the Dragon King Hall to ask Zhu Longwang for rain. King Zhu Long took pity on his fellow villagers and secretly took advantage of the dark night to have a light rain.

But God knew what had happened, and he was punished by being thrown into the mud for seven or forty-nine days. His tail fell off and his body was blackened.

Later King Zhulong went to the Northeast. At that time, there was a Bailong River in the northeast. There was a white dragon living in the river. It ate several fishermen every year.

When Zhu Longwang came, he wanted to stay here, but Bailong refused. King Zhulong had a fight with Bailong, but he was missing his tail and couldn't defeat Bailong.

So at night, King Zhulong entrusted a dream to the Shandong people by the Bailong River, saying that he would fight Bailong tomorrow. If people see black flowers blooming in the water, they throw steamed buns into it; if they see white flowers blooming in the water, they throw lime into it. With the help of Shandong fellows, King Zhulong defeated Bailong and occupied the river.

From then on, the river was called Heilongjiang.

Therefore, when sailing on the Heilongjiang River, always ask if there are any Shandong people. If there are no Shandong people, the boat will not sail.

Local people say that although King Zhu Long is in the northeast, his heart is still towards his hometown. Every June and July, he often goes home and secretly rains a few times in his hometown. It often rains in the evening and stops early in the morning. Therefore, whenever there is a serious drought in the southeastern part of Fei County, people will go to the Dragon King Hall to pray for rain.

Rain seekers wear wicker hats and carry incense paper and come to the Dragon King Hall to kowtow, burn incense and pray for rain.

Women also go to Huiquan to dig out the spring water, which is called digging longan. Take out all the dirt in the spring. If you take out fish, put it back. After praying for rain, it often rains before the team reaches home. The old people in Loudouwan proudly said: "Our place has never experienced droughts, floods, or harvests in many years. It has never happened." King Zhulong has of course become the patron saint of the local people. Its functions have expanded from distributing rainwater to curing illnesses and ensuring people's safety.

Every year on the sixth day of June, the birthday of the Dragon King, people from dozens of miles around come to send incense to the Dragon King, forming a huge Dragon King Temple Fair on June 6th.
