What English words are interesting (or impressive)?

I was deeply impressed by many English words, such as lie and lay. When I was in high school, these two words were silly and confused, because they were so similar, especially their past tense and past participle were basically variants of both, so I often made a fool of myself in class and never answered questions, so I was deeply impressed by these two words.
