Can bananas be stored in the refrigerator?

Bananas cannot be placed in the refrigerator.

Everyone knows that bananas are plants of the Musa family and the genus Musa, which are tropical fruits. Bananas are fruits that like humid and warm climates, and the average temperature of banana planting areas is above 21℃ for many years, and a few are around 20℃. Bananas are afraid of low temperatures and avoid frost and snow, so they basically grow in places with high temperatures and humidity. The growth temperature is 20 to 35°C, the most suitable is 24 to 32°C, and the minimum should not be lower than 15.5°C.

The preservation temperature of normal household refrigerators is around 8 degrees Celsius, while bananas are frozen at 12 degrees Celsius. Tropical fruits such as bananas are extremely easy to rot and turn black after being damaged by freezing.

If you want to keep bananas fresh, you can put them in a ventilated and cool place. Normally, bananas are half-raw after being picked. Merchants will spray ripening agents on the bananas. If you can't finish the bananas, you can rinse them with water first. On one side, wipe it clean with a paper towel or a dry towel. It is best not to stack the bananas with other fruits. If the quantity is large, it is best to open the bananas separately.

Bananas themselves can release ethylene. The ethylene released in bananas is a ripening agent for fruits. A better way to keep fruits fresh is to separate the bananas and wrap each piece with a small piece of plastic wrap. On the stem of a banana, plastic wrap can effectively inhibit the ethylene gas produced when the banana ripens. During the ripening process of bananas, ethylene gas will diffuse to other parts, causing the entire banana to ripen faster. The plastic wrap can prevent the diffusion of ethylene gas and prevent it from accelerating ripening.

The same goes for separating bananas. Bananas are connected by their stems, and some bananas that ripen prematurely can spread the ethylene gas they release to other connected bananas.

Of course, plastic wrap cannot completely prevent bananas from ripening, it just slows them down, so it is better to eat bananas or any fruit while they are fresh.
