The French language is so rigorous, is there such an interesting thing as puns?

I was jogging some time ago to listen to the radio and turned on the FM radio. Halfway through, I heard a news article introducing an event to commemorate the independence movement in la municipalité de Lille. When I heard it, it was awesome. Did Lille even fight for independence? Only later did I realize that I was talking about Tahiti, la municipalité de l'?le...
