I swatted a fly to death, but it wasn’t the end of it. Countless maggots crawled out of its body. Why?

If you break the belly of an ordinary fly (house fly), you won’t see maggots inside. However, if you hit a cannabis fly (scientifically called flesh fly), you will often see many maggots coming out of the belly. Some people say that the fly has rotten stomach and is infested with maggots. Some people say that maybe the hemp fly ate the fly's eggs and turned into maggots in its stomach.

Actually, these statements are not correct. It turns out that hemp flies are different from ordinary house flies. House flies lay eggs, while hemp flies are "viviparous". In other words, hemp flies do not lay eggs, but the larvae they give birth to are maggots. When we killed the hemp fly that was about to lay eggs, the maggots in its belly came out on their own.
