Tongji University was founded on 1907. Its predecessor was the German Medical College founded by German doctor Baolong in Shanghai, and later it was renamed Tongji German Medical College and National Tongji University. It is one of the earliest seven national universities in China. Tongji headquarters and Fudan Handan headquarters are separated by only one road, only by the inner ring viaduct. It is most convenient to take the subway 10 line to Tongji University, which has a special station. The Shanghai municipal government is also working hard. Even the facade of the subway station is decorated with red masonry, which is consistent with Tongji's red architectural style and unforgettable. However, the school gate of Tongji looks ordinary. The school gate adopts arch style, with white surface and imitation stone treatment. Shu Tong, honorary president of China Calligraphy Society, inscribed "Tongji University" on the door eyebrow, which is also silver. The most interesting buildings in Tongji campus are buildings with different shapes. There are nearly 20 names that can be counted, such as North and South Building, Administration Building, Library, 129 Auditorium, Auditorium and Badminton Hall. Most of them have a long history and were born in the 1950s and 1960s. These buildings with different shapes stand quietly in Tongji campus like still notes, and together they compose the most magnificent music on campus. It is said that this is one of the top ten prestressed buildings in China in 1990s. Tongji library consists of main library, Hudong branch, Huxi branch, Hubei reader service department and Jiading campus library, with a total area of more than 70,000 square meters. The collection resources are very rich, especially in geotechnical engineering and architecture. It is said that there are many treasures in the town hall, and there are endless netizens who come here to check the information every year.

On the north and south sides of Chairman Mao's statue are famous north and south buildings. The North and South Buildings are two four-story brick-concrete buildings, which were also built in the 1950s. The exterior walls are all red drywall, decorated with white vertical bars. A mechanical expert commented that the North and South Buildings are the most beautiful buildings in Tongji. Indeed, although these two buildings are not high, they are all symmetrically arranged around the square. In particular, the simple and dignified teaching building has long been integrated with the tall trees around it, which is full of the charm of China traditional architecture. Really beautiful! The North and South Buildings are still the places where most students in Tongji attend classes. At noon every day, people are crowded here, and the vitality of youth is written on the face of every Tongji student, which makes people envy.
