My hometown is Guangyuan, Sichuan. Personally, I feel that my hometown dialect can be communicated simply without local people. Mandarin is very popular now, and everyone will say that people who don't read much may have poor pronunciation. In our hometown, this kind of Mandarin is called "Trump". Generally speaking, as long as you don't say the nouns and dialects unique to your hometown, everyone can understand. It may be difficult to communicate with the elderly because they can't speak Mandarin at all and have a very authentic accent. This situation is still difficult to communicate.
