Getting closer to my father’s Qin Opera

My father loves to sing Qin Opera and often plays the role of an old student. Every New Year, he would always sing on the village stage, singing a song with a 50% discount on three books, seven days and eight nights. When I was a child, I didn’t know what Qin Opera was, but I just loved listening to the serious tunes and thought it was as tasty as the sour apricots I often loved to eat. Therefore, every New Year, I look forward to Qin Opera; every time when Qin Opera is performed, I forget to eat and sleep while watching it without feeling tired.

As the saying goes: No one knows his son better than his father. My father objected to my obsession with Qin opera. He said that "operating is a profession for low-class people, and it is useless to learn it well", and that "everything is low-class, but reading is the only way to be good." I didn't understand what he was saying, and although I agreed, I felt like I was being deceived. However, I obeyed my father's words and was sent to school by my father. The days passed by the sound of reading, and the shadow of Qin Opera became farther and farther away from me. My father's broad and strong chest and back blocked my eyes that could see into his soul. When I listened to him singing the Qin opera with twists and turns and full of emotions, I couldn't appreciate his complicated thoughts and feelings.

Life is like a play, and it has been played out several times in the blink of an eye. When I wore the school badge of a middle school student and gradually moved from ignorance to maturity, I gradually approached my father spiritually. Although his view that "operating is a profession for lowly people" has strong feudal ideas, and although I regret not being able to learn to sing the mellow and soul-stirring Qin Opera, I am still very grateful to him. It was my father who allowed me to learn knowledge and get close to his Qin opera. The tone of that sound is sometimes tragic, sometimes graceful, and sometimes desolate, all of which represent his thoughts and feelings, and also reflect the ups and downs of the world and the various tastes of life from the side. Qin Opera has become an indispensable spiritual food in my father's life, and Qin Opera embodies all his feelings. When he was happy, he would sing on the fire while sipping tea; when he was sad, he would also sing a few lines. Some of my father's personality traits are naturally revealed in his singing. I remember that when I was performing on stage, other actors were reluctant to play disgraceful roles, but my father was very happy. He believed that playing these roles was more educational. Some people said he was too stubborn, but he laughed and said, "Singers, why should we take it seriously?" His father also has a sense of responsibility. If an actor on the same stage gets stuck and forgets his lines during a performance, he will whisper to him in time. He said that he could not get away with it and let the audience laugh. Some of the audience did not understand, but there were also experts among them. There was an old woman in the village who was helpless and miserable all her life. She loved to listen to Qin opera on weekdays. After her father found out about this, he would sing to her whenever he had time. Whenever Qin Opera came out from the old grandma’s house, someone in the village would say, “Listen, I’m addicted to XX’s opera and have nowhere to sing.” But I knew that those sounds of Qin Opera expressed my father’s love for the old grandma. He gave him comfort and sympathy, but the people in the village didn't know what he was feeling!

As I approached my father and his Qin opera, I listened carefully and thought deeply.
