Wei Ting should be careful when installing "high top". If it is such a high-top modification scheme, don't change it!

There is no upper limit to the luxury and luxury of commercial vehicle modification, but there must be a "bottom line", that is, "vehicle safety". The last article talked about the danger of Wei Ting refitting the dashboard, and this article will talk about the precautions of "installing a high top".

The purpose of installing a high roof in commercial vehicles is generally to expand the interior space, especially when the overhead space extends outward, you can make a big fuss on the roof without feeling depressed when riding. The following photo shows the effect of Wei Ting's installation of high ceiling. Does it look like the sky is high and the clouds are light?

Let's talk about what it's like to install a high roof. In fact, it is very simple, that is, in broad daylight, cut a big hole in the iron roof of the original car and then fasten a "high hat" on it. When I first saw this "high hat", I felt like a boat fell on the roof. The following photos still take Mercedes-Benz Weiting as an example:

When I say "be careful when fitting the top", I don't mean never fitting the top, but it depends on how you fit it. As we all know, the outermost layer of a car is a layer of iron sheet, which is only about a millimeter thick, mainly to shelter from the wind and rain, and of course, it also has the function of making the car more beautiful through the unique shape of the iron sheet. This layer of iron sheet is called the "exterior decoration part", but the main part that supports the strength of the car is the "structural part", which is hidden in the iron sheet, just like the "load-bearing beam" of the building.

The reason why the modified high roof has potential safety hazards is that we destroyed the "skeleton structure" of the original car when cutting the roof. From the cut roof, you can see a beam under the iron sheet, which is as important as the beam of the house. However, it was cut by our cutting machine.

The two ends of the roof beam were originally connected to the load-bearing structures on both sides of the car body, but now they have been cut off, leaving two stubs, which are far apart and sigh and never meet again.

Originally, the whole body frame formed a closed quadrangle, but now the ceiling has been cut off, and the empty and stable structure has been destroyed. From then on, the left and right side walls of the body are helpless and crumbling. ...

Once you hit the side wall, the consequences can be imagined. ...

This article may offend some car modification factory owners, who may say: Although the roof of the original car was cut off, didn't it have a new high roof? There are also ribs on the roof, which can completely make up for the damaged structure of the original car!

I want to talk about the types of suspended ceilings currently on the market. One is "glass fiber reinforced plastic". Glass fiber reinforced plastic is not "steel", but a kind of fiber reinforced plastic. Its strength is low, but its price is relatively cheap. The other is made of "iron", which is similar in strength to the original car, but more expensive.

First of all, let's take a look at the high roof made of "FRP". Some manufacturers use battens as reinforcing ribs, that is, they bury battens in FRP. I think this kind of wooden beam is a joke. It really treats the car running on the road as a "wooden toy". Other manufacturers use "square pipe steel" as the support of high roofs, which bonds FRP and iron square pipes together through "structural adhesive".

What kind of "square steel beam" it is, I can't express it clearly, I can only enlarge it for you. It's the kind of doors and windows made in our home, and they're not curved, but welded in sections. The two ends of the square pipe beam are fixed on the iron plate of the original car with two bolts. I don't have the conditions to test the strength of this kind of beam, but I have a bottom by hand twice. According to your intuition, how strong do you think this structure can be?

Let's look at the top of the iron material. This kind of high roof reinforcement is much better. It's almost the same as the original car. It's made of stamped steel plates. But the problem is that even if it is equivalent to the roof strength of the original car, the overall strength after installation is far from the original car. Why do you say that? The problem lies in the installation and fixing method of high roof.

The reinforcing ribs on the roof of the original car are integrated with the reinforcing ribs on the left and right sides of the car body and welded at one time. The iron plate top is bolted to the original iron plate through a circle of screw holes. Because when cutting the roof of the original car, a circle of edges are left around the roof, and then a circle of holes can be drilled on it, corresponding to a circle of holes in the iron roof, and then fixed together with bolts. So to put it bluntly, although the iron roof has relatively strong ribs, it is still independent and has no connection with the ribs on the left and right sides of the original car, so the overall strength is greatly reduced.

It is actually a very popular modification scheme to install the top on the Mercedes-Benz Weiting, which is often seen abroad, but I don't know how you operate it. For example, the car below is an American modified Weiting. It looks beautiful, but I don't know what the revision process is like, so I dare not judge here.

Therefore, the high roof of Mercedes-Benz Weiting can be modified, but whether it is safe and reliable depends on how the structure and installation method of the high roof are designed. Finally, in my personal opinion, it is best not to change the top easily when the domestic modification technology is not particularly mature. After all, broken mirrors are difficult to reunite, and the roof of the original car is cut off, which is considered to be the key point and related to vehicle safety. If you want to modify your car, you can modify some unimportant places, such as interior, color and gadgets, while the main structure of the car body is best not to move.

Everyone's modification is nothing more than fun, but if the bottom line of "life safety" is moved, it is no joke.
