Why did Lin Daiyu, who is also a scholar in A Dream of Red Mansions, say that Jia Baoyu was a "silver spear"?

Before we understand Dai Yu's sentence, we should first understand the meaning of the silver-like spear head (yín yàng là qiāng tóu).

The silver-like spear point comes from the second fold of the fourth book of Yuan Wang Shifu's The West Chamber: "You used to be a' seedling but not a show', bah, a silver-like spear point." The author wrote Lin Daiyu more than once and couldn't help but read the lines of the characters in the play. What does it mean? It shows that Lin Daiyu has unconsciously fallen into the play, and her self-awareness and emotion have been immersed for a long time, so once she encounters a similar situation, the characters in the play will blurt out. And "silver-like spear head" is also a line in the play. When used to describe a person, it generally means that this person is strong outside and weak inside, and the appearance is bluffing and the inside is soft.

Because Lin Daiyu and Jia Baoyu have a lover relationship, they can really see each other. Of course, this sentence also shows that Daiyu also has a taste of hating iron and not turning into steel, and she is a little disappointed with Baoyu's attitude and behavior. From our present point of view, since Jia Baoyu loves me and Lin Daiyu, why can't you share the same bed? Of course, there are restrictions from my father, Jia Zheng, my mother, Mrs. Wang and my grandmother.

Sometimes, when we talk about the reasons for Bao Dai's broken love, although it is the product of parents' arrangement in feudal society, and if Baoyu's attitude is incompetent, if he works hard and is admitted to Jinshi, he may still have a chance to get married to Lin Daiyu. However, he is so decadent that he hangs out with girls all day, ignorant, disappointing his parents and worrying his lovers.
