Sichuan Province, referred to as Sichuan or Shu for short, is located in the hinterland of China, west of central China and upstream of the Yangtze River. It is bordered by Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountain in the north, adjacent to Qinghai, Gansu and Shaanxi, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the south, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the west and Three Gorges of the Yangtze River in the east, which is a natural link connecting southwest and northwest China. It is about 1 000km long from east to west and 900km wide from north to south, covering an area of about 490,000km2, ranking fifth in China Province, accounting for about 5% of the total area of China.

The population in 2007 was 87.23 million. Besides the Han nationality, there are 15 ethnic minorities, such as Burial, Tibetan, Qiang, Hui, Mongolia, Lisu, Manchu, Naxi, Bai, Buyi, Dai, Miao and Tujia. Sichuan has a subtropical humid climate with a large temperature difference between east and west.

Sichuan is the province with the strongest economic strength among the western provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China, with superior natural conditions and developed agriculture, and is a famous agricultural product province in China. There are many kinds of food crops with large output. Cash crops are famous for their variety, mainly rapeseed, cotton, peanuts, sesame seeds, sugar cane and so on. Citrus production is the largest, mainly produced along the Yangtze River and its tributaries, Tuojiang River and Jialing River, which is called the "Golden Corridor".
