According to legend, at the end of the year, An Lushan, who was also the envoy of three towns, joined hands with Shi Siming to launch an Anshi Rebellion in the name of killing Prime Minister Yang, captured the two capitals and established a puppet regime. But Tang Xuanzong was forced to flee Chengdu, and his embarrassment became a joke in history.

Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty was frightened by An Lushan, who had only three towns and horses. There were political, military and social reasons.

First of all, there are political reasons: in the later period of Tang Xuanzong, he was content with pleasure, favored Yang Guifei, made his younger brother a higher vocational position, and made his younger sister a title, which set the stage for Yang to manipulate the law and ruin his political platform, and set off a rebellion storm in the later period of Tang Xuanzong. There is also Xuanzong, who is ignorant of people and values courtiers. He appointed Li Linfu and Yang as prime ministers. They dominated the state affairs and rejected dissidents, which made the court and even the country in the later period of Xuanzong a mess, and at the same time gave An Lushan an opportunity. The political corruption of the imperial court made it impossible to go to Taiwan, which led to the lack of virtuous officials in the imperial court, and a group of mediocre officials headed by Yang were helpless in the face of the Anshi rebellion.

Second, there are military reasons. Tang Xuanzong was unaware of the imperial court crisis and political corruption. Instead, he was overjoyed and started a war abroad. Frontier generals constantly provoked and led wars to neighboring countries, which led to the later Anshi Rebellion and many ethnic minorities attacked together. At the same time, when the Anshi Rebellion began, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty was blind and listened to the eunuch. First, he unjustly killed Gao Xianzhi and Feng Changqing, the famous soldiers who fought hard at the front, and shook the morale of the army. Later, he was self-righteous and forced Ge to lead a group of weak soldiers to fight the Anshi rebels outside Tongguan, which eventually led to the fall of Tongguan and the Chang 'an crisis. Xuanzong and the harem and imperial clan had to flee hastily.

There are also social reasons, such as the profligacy in the late Tang Xuanzong, which greatly increased the burden on the bottom people and amplified social contradictions. In addition, Li Linfu and Yang Guozong, two traitors, were rampant in corruption and the people were in poverty, which made Tang Xuanzong lose the popular support at that time.

In the later period of Tang Xuanzong's political corruption, military incompetence and the loss of popular support, there was no reason to be in an invincible position, so it was natural to be embarrassed by An Lushan.
