How to appreciate Xie Lingyun's "Climbing to the Top of Mount Lu and Looking at Zhuqiao"?
This poem is the lyrical and freehand emotion of the poet when he climbed to the top of Mount Lushan and looked around at the mountains and fields. Xie Lingyun, who likes to travel around mountains and rivers, climbed to the "Jue Ding" and realized his daily vision. When the poet looks into the distance, he can only see "Ji Gorge suddenly reopens" and "Luan ridge has ridges". This magnificent and magnificent natural scenery naturally makes the author feel excited.
This poem even raises a very interesting question to the world. "Return of Ancient Poems" co-edited by Zhong Xing and Tan Yuanchun in the Ming Dynasty includes the poet's poem "Climbing the top of Mount Lu to look at the mountains", which contains only the following six lines:
Jixia may be restored, but it will be flat Russia is closed. There are Heda in the mountains and rivers, but there is no trace of the comings and goings. The sun and moon are blocked day and night, and there is frost and snow in winter and summer.
They admired the poem very much. Zhong Yun: "Six lines of essence are a short story." Tan Yun: "Others write dozens of lines, but they cannot be so simple and wonderful." However, Xie Lingyun's travel poems cannot have only such a few lines. "The Return of Ancient Poems" actually contains an incomplete fragment. At least, according to records in ancient books such as Li Shan's Notes in "Selected Works", there are six more lines at the beginning of this poem:
The journey to the mountains is not the first stage, and we must not stop when we are far away. But if you want to drown and faint, then your menstrual flow will increase and decrease again. Climb the wall to see the dragon pond, climb the branches to see the breast cave.
According to the habits of Xie Lingyun's poems, it is very likely that there are many more sentences after the six sentences included in "Gu Shi Gui", but I have not seen any relevant records. Zhong and Tan commented on the remaining poems as if they were complete poems, which was like being blind to the elephant. As a result, they were repeatedly ridiculed by later generations, and this incident became a famous joke in the history of literary criticism.
However, other than that, not many people have noticed whether this poem is better incomplete or complete. At least, the six sentences recorded in "Gu Shi Gui", as a poem, aside from the somewhat abrupt beginning, are generally good, with concentrated poetic meaning and capturing the characteristics of the scenery. If you add another six sentences, it will seem protracted, cumbersome, and the rhythm will be flat and weak.
