Zhang Zhaozhong: Why does North Korea want to develop nuclear weapons?

North Korea develops nuclear weapons:

1. In the arms race with South Korea, North Korea can't guarantee its own security by conventional force. In other words, if South Korea wants to unify North Korea, North Korea can't beat South Korea at all, so it needs nuclear bombs to guarantee its own security.

2. Conventional weapons are in constant need of investment, and North Korea simply has no money. It can't beat about $1 billion to buy a hundred Su-3s with supporting facilities, parts and pilots, and a hundred Su-3s are no match for hundreds of South Korean F15s, F16s and F35s.

3. Nuclear weapons are a one-time investment. As long as some money is used to build nuclear weapons, there is no need to be afraid in the future. In other words, with nuclear weapons, there is the possibility of peace on the Korean peninsula. Because nuclear countries have been unified by non-nuclear countries, it has never happened before, so North Korea wants to develop nuclear weapons.
