Behind-the-scenes production of speed of life and death

Actor selection

Stephen baldwin was originally chosen to play Jack in the film, but he thought that the image of Jack in the film was too similar to John McClane in Die Hard Rowen Rowen and refused to play the role. Director jan de bont chose Keanu Levi's in Breaking Point, thinking that Levi's on the big screen looks very fragile and poses no threat to men, because he is not a big shot, but his appearance is very attractive to women. In order to get the role of Anne Porter, sandra bullock auditioned for Levi's, and the chemistry between them was soon discovered.

Script modification

Keanu Reeves doesn't like Jack in the first draft of yost's play, and thinks that the film is like a joke that forcibly combines Die Hard Rowen Rowen with funny comedy. A week before the film started, the director asked screenwriter joss whedon to revise the script. Inspired by Keanu Reeves, he turned the pretentious Jack into a gentleman who tried to save everyone. His lines were no longer glib, and Jack's image suddenly became serious.

High speed scene

Some highway scenes in the film were shot on California interstate highways 105 and 1 10, which were not completed at that time. While inspecting the location, De Bont noticed that a large area of pavement was missing in a road section, so he asked the screenwriter Graham Yost to join the plot of the bus flying over the unfinished road section. In the real shooting, the crew used high-grade and high-load lanes. In order to make the heavy bus fly 50 feet, all unnecessary body parts were cut off. Only the driver completed this stunt in the car. The crew installed a buffer device to absorb the impact force on the seat and prevent the driver's spine from being injured. The first jump ended with the bus sliding off the slope and crashing. Two days later, the second jump was very successful, but the bus hit a camera when it landed. Fortunately, another camera 70 feet away from the slope recorded this spectacular scene.
