Provide some historical information about Huo Yuanjia
Huo Yuanjia, courtesy name Junqing, was born in 1869, the seventh year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. His ancestors lived in Xiaonanhe Village in the western suburbs of Tianjin for generations.
Xiaonanhe Village has a history of more than 600 years. At that time, this martial arts family made a living by farming and lived the same farm life as most villagers. Young Huo Yuanjia did mostly physical work. The hero is no different from the path traveled by most Chinese farmers of that era. The former residence of Huo Yuanjia used to be just three adobe houses. After renovation, it is now a brick building. The former residence basically maintains the living conditions of Huo Yuanjia at that time. The farm tools used by Huo Yuanjia are displayed in the house. Only the martial arts belongings prove that this family is unique.
The Huo family's ancestral kung fu "Secret Fist", also known as "Huo's Shouquan", was finally unveiled to the world in Huo Yuanjia's generation. Before this farmer who knew kung fu was regarded as a "great hero", he silently traveled between the countryside and Tianjin Wei for a living until he was in his thirties. At first it was self-defense, but later it was more about drawing a sword to help others when the road was rough. The chivalrous act made Huo Yuanjia gradually famous in Tianjin Guard. But what really made Huo Yuanjia famous all over the world was his several martial arts competitions with foreigners.
The old China, which was poor and weak, suffered from the oppression and bullying of the foreign powers. Huo Yuanjia’s fist inspired the aspirations of the Chinese people. He boldly declared, "The world ridicules our country as the country of sick men, and I am the country of sick men." A sick man, I am willing to give the world a try." Huo Yuanjia's awe-inspiring righteousness made the Chinese feel proud.
Huo Yuanjia stood up in Shanghai and once again scared away the arrogant foreign provocateurs with the courage of "specializing in recruiting strong men from all over the world. Although they have copper muscles and iron bones, they have nothing to fear". The country's prestige has spread far and wide. In June 1910, Huo Yuanjia founded the "China Jingwu Gymnastics Association", which was later renamed the "Jingwu Sports Association". This also earned Huo Yuanjia the reputation of "Jingwu Hero". Nowadays, Jingwu Sports Club has spread all over the country and abroad, especially in Southeast Asia, with hundreds of thousands of members. This folk sports association that "takes national martial arts as its foundation and martial arts as its refuge" holds high the banner of "patriotism, self-cultivation, justice, and helping others" and has left behind many legends.
Mr. Sun Yat-sen spoke highly of Huo Yuanjia's courage to "use force to protect the country and strengthen the country." On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Jingwu Association, Sun Yat-sen attended the conference in person and wrote a preface for the "Jingwu" journal. The four characters "Martial Spirit" he wrote in his own hand are still popular today.
Huo Yuanjia was born in an era with strong sectarian concepts, but he was able to repeatedly break through the shackles of sects, be inclusive, face the world of martial arts with a rare open concept, and sincerely advocate that "boxing is common to the world." "Thoughts. Huo Yuanjia died unfortunately on September 14, 1910, just three months after he founded the Jingwu Association. There has been a rumor among the people that he was killed by the Japanese.
After Huo Yuanjia died, he was first buried in Shanghai Cemetery. In 1911, his disciples returned home with his coffin and buried him in Xiaonanhe Village. In 1991, Tianjin people built this cemetery for people to pay their respects.
Huo Yuanjia had only one marriage in his life. His wife Wang lived in Xiaonanhe Village until his death in 1960, at the age of 92. Huo Yuanjia and his wife died 50 years apart and were finally buried together. Huo Yuanjia's cemetery is now the same tomb where he and his wife were buried together.
Huo Daxia's hometown is a place known for its "martial spirit". It is in this atmosphere that Huo Yuanjia Civil and Military School has accumulated popularity and achieved success. The school is adjacent to the Huo Yuanjia Cemetery and Memorial Hall, and has become a golden sign of Xiaonanhe Village’s “ability in literature and martial arts”. It is also a tangible inheritance of the martial spirit in this “hometown of martial arts”. Many foreigners who are obsessed with Chinese Kung Fu also come here, and its influence is increasingly profound.
