Hello.

In the past few months, I have been talking about the choices we face as a country. We can either be satisfied with an economy in which only a few people are doing well while others are struggling hard, or we can build an economy in which hard work pays off-everyone has a fair chance, everyone does his part and everyone abides by the same rules. It's up to us.

Today, I want to talk to you about that everyone in this country should do their part.

Now, if this is a perfect world, we will have unlimited resources. No one needs to pay any taxes. We can spend as much as we want. But we live in the real world. We don't have unlimited resources. We have a deficit to repay, and we must also pay for investments that will help our economic growth and maintain our national security: education, research and technology, a strong army, and retirement plans such as medical insurance and social security.

This means that we have to make a choice. When it comes to paying the deficit and investing in our future, should we ask the American middle class to pay more when their budget has reached its limit? Or should we ask some of the richest Americans to pay their fair share?

This is the choice. In the past ten years, we have spent hundreds of billions of dollars to implement temporary tax cuts for the richest 2% Americans. Now we plan to spend nearly one trillion more. Today, the richest Americans are paying taxes at the lowest rate in 50 years. Warren Buffett pays less than his secretary. At the same time, the tax rate of middle-class families has hardly changed in the past 30 years.

It's not fair. It doesn't make any sense. Do we want to continue to cut taxes for the richest Americans like me, Warren Buffett or Bill Gates? These people don't need and never asked for tax cuts. Or, do we want to continue to invest in things that can promote economic growth and ensure our security? Because we can't have both.

Now, some people call it class struggle. But I think it's just common sense to ask a billionaire to pay at least the same tax rate as his secretary. We don't envy the success of this country. We are eager for it. But we also believe that anyone who does well for himself should do his part, so that more people have a chance to succeed-not just a few.

This is the America I believe in. In the next few weeks, members of Congress will have the opportunity to show you their positions. Congress will vote on the so-called Buffett rule: if your annual income exceeds 1 10,000 dollars, you should at least pay the same proportion of taxes as middle-class families. On the other hand, if your annual income is less than $250,000-like 98% of American families-your tax should not be increased. From college tuition to groceries, you are all struggling with rising costs. You are the ones who should rest.

So every member of congress should put it on record. If they vote to continue to give tax cuts to people like me-our country cannot provide tax cuts-then they must explain to you where the money comes from. Either increase our deficit or pay out of your pocket. Old people will have to pay more for their medical insurance. Students will see their interest rates rise when they can't afford them. Families struggling to make ends meet will have to do more because the richest Americans do less.

This is not right. We're not like that. In America, our story is never about what we can do by ourselves, but about what we can do together. This is about believing in our future and the future of this country. So tell your congressmen to do the right thing. Call them, write them a letter, visit them and tell them to stop giving tax cuts to those who don't need them and start investing in things that will help our economy grow and get people back to work.

This is how we can make this country fairer, more just and stronger. Thank you.

Hello, hope to adopt!
