My friends have always asked me if I want to learn makeup and then do makeup. I want to know if it is difficult to be a makeup artist.

I answered her honestly: It’s not difficult.

Later, when she went to find out more about it, she came to me frustrated and said: I feel that the cosmetics market is already full, how can I move forward?

I didn’t answer her after listening. I just shared with her my previous experiences and thoughts about the makeup industry.

When I just graduated in 2013, I impulsively studied makeup for a year. Including getting the makeup artist qualification certificate, and then working hard in the makeup industry for two years.

There is no way to describe in words the feeling of satisfaction when you watch a complete makeup look come out of your hands.

Unfortunately, I am not destined to continue with it. For some reasons, I left this industry (I won’t go into details about this)

When I first graduated, I also went through the same confusion period as many newcomers learning makeup. I always heard that others were taking on The order costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but if I were asked to take the order, I don’t know where to start. I can only join the group desperately, and then add makeup artists and photographers I don’t know. In order to obtain a certain amount of economic income to support my life, I later found out that this was in vain because they were not familiar with me and did not understand my skills and personality. At most, everyone just chats occasionally when they have time, but when they really need help, they will most often find someone they know. (This is also normal!)

The first turning point was after running around for about two months, and it was the end of the year. Various annual meetings, weddings, exhibitions... were all being held, and the makeup artists around me also needed assistants in various situations. I ran around here and there for more than a month. That month was the first time that my income exceeded 2,000 yuan (applause, it was a breakthrough victory~)

It was also at that time that I recognized a master, and he laughed at me when he saw me. , I even said back to him at that time, you don’t understand.

Yes, he didn’t understand, because it took me more than a year from studying to working, and I only had to give and gain nothing. I have never been recognized by anyone, and I am already frustrated. It was at this time that I received my first huge sum of money in my life. You can imagine how satisfying that moment was for me. I feel that all the persistence is worth it.

Since then, I have been working as an assistant with the master for about half a year. He gave me my first order, a commercial shooting order. When I took the order for the first time, I was under too much pressure and wanted to do it well, so I made a lot of mistakes and made a lot of jokes. But it passed smoothly. However, after this order, I never received another order.

At that time, I was very confused and asked my master why I couldn’t get the order.

He asked me at that time: Have you ever expanded your network? Have you tried other methods to find orders? Have you been to any events? You don't even go there, do nothing and just wait for the bill to fall to you?

I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be possible to take orders after I finish studying?

Later, I followed the makeup artists around me who had developed, those who were still developing, and some who had been working as makeup artists for several years. I found out after chatting for a while.

It is not enough to have skills, you also need to use your brain.

Some of them regularly contact advertising companies, wedding companies, photography companies, and various studios. (This kind of thing is more powerful, because they can contact the person in charge)

Some people just chat with the photographers, makeup artists, planners, editors, etc. around them every day, and then treat them to dinner. There are countless categories.

Some people go there whenever they see a makeup artist around them who is in need of an assistant, regardless of whether they pay or not, just to look familiar.

Some people apply for various beauty companies, anchor studios, Taobao beauty live broadcasts... these are long-term and short-term jobs related to any beauty.

Some people will choose to make beauty tutorial videos or beauty review videos.

Some people will apply to be makeup artists in photo studios, foot baths, counters and other stores, and their income is very stable.

The last person is someone as stupid as me, who does nothing but waits for people around him to ask him to be an assistant or to help out so that he can earn income. (Of course, I am lucky. I know my master. He has always taken me around and given me food.)

① When there are no orders, add more groups. If you see any large-scale shooting events or events that require free makeup artist to take pictures, sign up for it (you will meet a lot of people, some of whom may be helpful to you)

②. Do more works, Publish more of your work. You can also take your work to photography, acting, wedding... and talk to the person in charge. Maybe when they need people, they will remember that your skills are good, and then contact you ( Mainly, you must be thick-skinned)

③. Frequently communicate and keep in touch with the people around you. Anyone can be a potential customer. (Because there are always people around you who are getting married or attending year-end dinner parties)

④. Watch more, practice more, and learn more. For the makeup industry, fashion trends will change faster. Heavy makeup may be popular one day, but Biling? Biling is popular the next day. Only by keeping up with the rhythm will you have different gains.

5. Don’t care too much about gains and losses. In the early stage, you must be patient, and you will gain something later. In today's terms: Every company you go to has a probation period. You can consider this period as a probation period.

⑥. Persevere, you must persist. All success comes from persistence at the beginning.
