No wonder you are joking because you don't understand "logic"!

Day ploughing 139

I finally began to read the book Logic, starting with the introduction of Simple Logic.

The author of this book is American D.Q. McLenny. In the preface, he said that there is neither rigid theoretical dogma nor formal textbook in the book, because he "wants to introduce the basic principles of logic to beginners, and the ultimate goal is to train more practitioners, not theorists". Therefore, the author explains the broad connotation of "logic" in simple terms.

The book is divided into five parts: ideological preparation, basic principles, argumentation, the root of illogical thinking and the main forms of illogical thinking. What impressed me the most was the last part, which listed a large number of "logical fallacies" that people are most likely to make in their daily lives. While watching, I was shocked to find that many of them could find shadows in themselves.

A long time ago, I heard that many foreign universities took "logic" as a compulsory subject for students. What's more, in primary school, children begin to learn to distinguish between "facts" and "opinions". The real "starting from the doll" is really amazing compared with the current situation that many adults here have not figured out the difference between these two simple concepts.

Later, I stayed on the Internet for a long time, and often actively or passively watched the process of "fighting" or "arguing" among people on the Internet, or netizens' comments on some public events. After reading too much, I have a general feeling that many people's words or words contain logic called chaos. Many times, the arguments between the two sides are not the same thing at all. It's a complete "chicken and duck talk", and no one really listens to what the other party is saying. Anyway, it sounds like talking to yourself. In the end, apart from mouth addiction, it just makes people feel that these people are too stupid to even quarrel, and sometimes there are some famous "big V" mixed in. At this time, I gradually realized that it seems that "logical thinking" is indeed a lesson that most of us lack.

On our network, such examples abound:

"The quality of Japanese cars is really good, and it saves fuel when driving." "Why do you say Japanese cars are good? Is China's car bad? How can you be so unpatriotic! " -The Scarecrow Fallacy

"Most people are disgusted or disgusted with homosexuality, and there has never been a same-sex marriage in history, so homosexuality is definitely wrong! They should be corrected. " -"Democratic fallacy" and "traditional fallacy"

"So-and-so is quite reliable." "He cheated (taking drugs), and people with such depraved morality can believe it?" -"origin fallacy"

"Why do you always criticize your country and government? Are you from China? " -"Appeal to personal fallacy"

……

Not only on the internet, but also in the general traditional media, such jokes caused by "logical confusion" are not uncommon. I remember a few years ago, Zhang Shaogang, the host of CCTV, first made rude remarks to an applicant on the job-seeking program "You are Me", and then made some wild accusations. The result caused great controversy on the Internet and was accused by netizens as "hype". Afterwards, in order to save the influence, Zhang went on a talk show and didn't mention "swearing" at all. From beginning to end, he has been clarifying that he is low-key, not for "hype", but for his first-class kung fu of "avoiding reality and being empty". It's a pity that his "logical thinking" is a bit poor and he can't get away with it. It seems that rational thinking is an important quality everywhere, at least it is not so easy to be deceived.

In fact, there are always few "absolutely necessary" courses in life, and most of them are not taught in our school. However, even if I don't teach such a course as "logic", I still feel that it is a good thing for anyone to "learn to think correctly" as long as they can learn a little.
