In December 1936, the headquarters of the West Route Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and its affiliated 5th Army and 9th Army, totaling more than 300,000 people, marched westward into Linze and were intercepted by the Kuomintang’s Ma Bufang Division. Thousands of soldiers died heroically in Nijiaying, Nanliugou, Liyuankou and other places after more than 70 days of bloody fighting. In order to commemorate the heroes, comfort the loyal souls, inspire the living, and enlighten future generations, this monument was specially erected. The revolutionary spirit of the martyrs will last forever.
