A brief introduction to the history of the Song family

About the origins of these modern celebrities in China, Song Qingling, Song Meiling and Song Ziwen were verified by the Literature and History Group of Wenchang County Committee of Guangdong Province of China People's Political Consultative Conference as children of the Han family. According to the textual research of this group, the history of the Song family is briefly introduced as follows:

Soong Ching Ling's father, Song Yaoru (also known as Song Jiashu), whose real name is Han Jiaozhun, was adopted by his aunt's younger brother named Song when he was a teenager, so he changed his surname to Song.

Many Chinese books and periodicals translate Uncle into uncle according to English works, so it is said that Song Yaoru's real surname is Han, and he changed his surname to Song with his uncle. How can his uncle have a different surname from his father? It's getting more and more confusing. English Uncle can be an uncle, uncle, uncle, uncle. Foreigners can't distinguish this kind of kinship.

The ancestors of Song Yaoru (namely Han Jiaozhun) were Hakkas, who lived in Anyang, Xiangzhou, Henan Province in the Northern Song Dynasty. During the Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1126-1279), it was invaded by tribes in Central Asia and moved south to avoid war. Han Xianqing, a member of the clan, went to Huiji (now Shaoxing) County, Zhejiang Province, and later moved to Guangdong (Guangdong) as the prefect of Lianzhou. In 1197, the descendants of Han Xianqing crossed the sea to Qiong (Hainan Island) and settled in Jinshan. By the Qing Dynasty, the descendants of Han lived in Niwupo Village, Luo Dou, and then moved to Guluyuan Village, Changsa District. Soong Ching Ling's ancestor's god card has been placed in Niwupo Village, Luo Dou City. In 195, Han Yufeng, who had just returned to China, went there to pay a memorial service. These god cards were destroyed in 1953, but Soong Ching Ling's modern ancestral cards were still placed in the ancestral home of Changsa.

Soong Ching Ling's "roots" are in Guluyuan Village, Changsa District, Wenchang County. Her ancestral name is Han. What are the grounds?

1. Ancestral House: There are two ancestral houses of Soong Ching Ling, which are old-style houses where poor farmers in Wenchang County live. The building is southwest to northeast, with a small courtyard and four horizontal houses. Soong Ching Ling's grandparents, Han Hongyi and his wife, died in this old house. These old houses collapsed because they were not repaired for a long time, leaving only one small house. In 1985, Wenchang county government allocated funds to rebuild two main houses as they were. Now, the house with the sign of "Song's ancestral home" is under the care of Song Qingling's cousin Han Yufeng (88 years old).

2. Ancestral Grave: In the Niusuan Woods about 4 meters northwest of the ancestral home of the Song family, there is the grave of Soong Ching Ling's grandmother. There is a small granite tombstone in front of the grave, and the seven characters "Tomb of the Wang Family of Qing Han Cong" are engraved in the middle. At the bottom left, the words "male political quasi-education quasi-Sun Gan is rich and prosperous" are engraved. The "teaching accuracy" on the tablet is Song Yaoru, the father of Soong Ching Ling. Song Yaoru's father Han Hongyi's tomb is on Dapinpo, Baofang District, Wenchang County (southwest of Changsa). The cemetery is still quite complete, and the middle of the tombstone is engraved with the eight characters "Han Kao's Tomb of Hung Wing Gong". On the left, the words "Sun Ganfeng's virtue and prosperity" are engraved.

Third, the ancestral card of our family: This card is now preserved in the ancestral home of the Song family. The 2th ancestor Han Ruxun and 21st ancestor Han Jinyi on the ancestral card are the great-grandparents and great-grandfathers of Soong Ching Ling. 4. Relatives now living in the ancestral home of the Song family. Han Yufeng, 88, is a relative of Soong Ching Ling's peers. He calls Soong Ching Ling a cousin. In Hainan dialect, they are "the same father".

Guluyuan Village, where the ancestral home of the Song family lived, is a very small village. When Han Yufeng left his hometown in 1917, there were only nine families in the village, four surnamed Fu and five surnamed Han. Soong Ching Ling's father once returned home to visit relatives at the beginning of this century.

Another strong evidence that Soong Ching Ling's father's real name is Han is that Song Yaoru wrote several letters in English six years after he left his hometown in Hainan, all of which mentioned that his father's name was Han Hongyi (he wrote that his father's name was Han Huag-i). Seagrave, an American, wrote the Song Dynasty, which included a letter written by Song Yaoru from Durham, North Carolina, USA on June 25th, 1881 to Dr. Jan Allen, a missionary in Shanghai. In the letter, Song Yaoru asked Dr. Lin Lezhi to help him forward a letter to his father in his hometown of Hainan Island, and the letter to his father was also written in English.

why do you write a letter to your father in English? Because Song Yaoru only read a little Chinese in his childhood, he specialized in English when he arrived in the United States. At that time, his Chinese level was not enough to write letters. In this letter, Song Yaoru told his father that he had become a Christian, and his address was Trinity College in North Carolina. At the end of the letter, it was "your son Han Jiashu", and the Christian name "Charlie Jones Song" and his uncle's surname were attached.

If foreigners write the history of the Song family, they may have mistaken Song Yaoru's name because they don't know the customs of China people, then such mistakes should be avoided when China people write their own books or translate foreigners' relevant works. But after consulting several books, we found many mistakes in this respect.

In the book Soong Ching Ling written by Jiang Hongbin (published by Jiangsu People's Publishing House in February 1987), when introducing Soong Ching Ling's father, he said that his real name was Han and he was born in Wenchang County, Hainan Island. It is also said that his grandfather is Han Jinyi, his father's name is Han Hongyi, and his uncle's name is Pengyi Han. There is nothing wrong with this, but it is said that Song Yaoru's real name is Han Zhizhun and his younger brother's name is Han Jiaozun, so the names of his brother and younger brother are upside down: Song Yaoru himself is Han Jiaozun, and Zhizhun is his younger brother.

The Song Family translated by Li Yusheng and others (written by emily hahn, an American, and published by Xinhua Publishing House) says that the Song family's ancestral home was in Shanxi, and a few years before Song Yaoru was born, he fled to Hainan Island due to the civil war, which seems to be a mistake. According to the historical data collected by Song's ancestral home and Han Yufeng himself, Song Yaoru's ancestral home is Henan, and he has settled in Hainan Island as early as the previous generations of Song Yaoru.

The book also said that Song Yaoru was sent to our family's distant shop in Boston with his uncle, and that this uncle was a member of his mother's family, which became more and more confused. Uncle is his father's younger brother, how can he become a "person in the mother's family"? The brothers on the mother's side are uncles, not uncles. Foreigners don't know the difference, and they are all called "Uncle". When China people translate Uncle, they can know by common sense that the person on the mother's side will not be an uncle, but only an uncle.

Actually, Song Yaoru became the adopted son of his aunt's younger brother. We have made this very clear in the previous article.

descendants of the family

There are not many descendants of the Song family, including the children born to Song Ziwen's three daughters, there are only more than 2 people.

Taking Song Yaoru as a pulse, the second generation is no longer alive. Among the six brothers and sisters of the Song family, the youngest brother Song Zian died first. Later, Song Ziwen and Song Ailing died in the United States one after another; In 1981, Soong Ching Ling died in Beijing; Two years later, Song Ziliang died in the United States; Twenty years later, Song Meiling passed away.

In the third generation, Song Ziwen has three daughters, all of whom are still alive. The eldest daughter lives in new york, one daughter lives in Hongkong and one daughter lives in the Philippines. Song Zian has two sons. Among them, Leo Soong and Cao Xuan have one boy, four girls and five children. The son is Song Yuanxiao, who is passed down from generation to generation. He is 2 years old and is studying at Davis University in California. The youngest daughter is studying at Stanford University.
