Overview of lifting columns

Lifting columns are also called lifting ground columns, lifting bollards, anti-collision bollards, hydraulic lifting columns, isolation piles, etc. English name Bollard. The word bollard originally described a short vertical pillar that was often used when large ships were moored in ports. Today its meaning has expanded to describe various facilities that manage pedestrian traffic, protect critical infrastructure, set perimeters, and differentiate roads.

Legend has it that street guardrails began in the 17th century and were shaped like inverted cannons and were used as boundary settings and city signs. Since then, they have appeared more and more in our daily lives, and can be found everywhere, such as supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, shops and stadiums. We can often see bollards of various shapes, either used to indicate the direction of travel, or used to protect us from injury, or used to inform us whether parking is possible here. These beautiful bollards beautify the environment, differentiate between sidewalks and roadways, and sometimes even serve as chairs where we can sit and enjoy lunch.

Fixed metal bollards are the most common. They are generally painted steel columns about 36 meters high, with cement poured inside and installed on the ground. Some bollards are cube-shaped, but most are cylindrical structures with angled or flat brims. Bollards come in many sizes, colors, textures, shapes and functions. They are either fixed, movable or retractable, and can also be used as a decoration to decorate the original steel pipe bollards.

Many bollards have aesthetic functions, especially metal bollards. They are used to prevent vehicles from damaging pedestrians and buildings. They can be used as the simplest method to control access and can also be used as guardrails. specific area. They can be fixed individually to the ground, or they can be arranged in a line to close the road to prevent vehicles from entering, thus ensuring safety. Metal barriers fixed to the ground serve as long-term barriers, while retractable and removable barriers ensure access for certified crowd vehicles.

Bollards have three main applications - construction (decoration), safety (impact resistance) and landscaping (perimeter protrusion). All bollards have common uses in architecture and landscaping, and differ only in style, shape and material. When it comes to security applications, different bollards are used to block different objects. For example, bollards used to stop traffic are different from bollards used to deal with protection (impact) issues. When it comes to safety applications, the first thing to consider is the size of the vehicle and the speed at which it was traveling at the time of the impact.

After years of application and development, bollards have now been expanded into various styles. Its main categories:

1. Pneumatic fully automatic lifting column: air is used as the driving medium, and the external pneumatic power unit drives the column to rise and fall.

2. Hydraulic fully automatic lifting column: hydraulic oil is used as the driving medium. There are two control methods, namely, driving the column up and down through an external hydraulic power unit (the driving part is separated from the column) or a built-in hydraulic unit power unit (the driving part is placed inside the column).

3. Electromechanical fully automatic lifting: the motor built into the column drives the lifting of the column.

Semi-automatic lifting column: The ascending process is driven by the power unit built into the column, and the descending process is completed by manpower.

4. Pull-type lifting column: The ascending process requires manual lifting, and the descending relies on the column's own weight.

5. Movable lifting column: The column and the base are designed separately. The column can be stowed away when it is no longer needed for control.

6. Fixed column: The column is directly fixed to the road surface.

The main use occasions, advantages and disadvantages of various types of columns are different, and the selection needs to be based on the actual project when using them.

For some high-security application places, such as military bases, prisons, etc., it is necessary to use anti-terrorism lifting columns. Compared with ordinary civilian-level lifting columns, the thickness of the column generally needs to be more than 12mm, while the general civilian-level lifting columns are 3-6mm. Beyond that, installation requirements vary. There are currently two international certification standards for high-security anti-terrorism lifting bollards: 1. British PAS68 certification (need to comply with PAS69 installation standards); 2. DOS certification from the US Department of Foreign Affairs Security Bureau. The 7.5T truck was tested and hit at a speed of 80KM/H. The truck was stopped in place and the roadblocks (lifting columns and road piles) continued to work as usual.

Although the performance of civilian-level lifting columns is slightly worse than that of anti-terrorism-level lifting columns, its protective performance can fully meet the needs of civilian security and is frequently used in daily life. It is suitable for vehicle access control places with large traffic flow and medium safety requirements. It can be widely used in banks, government agencies, R&D centers, power stations, highways, industrial parks, high-end villas, high-end office buildings, luxury stores, pedestrian streets and other places.

As the domestic anti-terrorism situation intensifies, the protection of sensitive areas of buildings becomes particularly important. Lifting columns are being accepted by more and more users due to their safety, beauty and many other advantages. However, the entry of lifting column products into the Chinese market has been short-lived, with little market accumulation and feedback, but demand has suddenly expanded. As a result, the products on the market are mixed, and it is not uncommon for products to be fake and fake. A large number of users and integrators have become victims of some unscrupulous businessmen seeking profit.
